Howdy guitar friend, I have a different sort of giveaway going on, and lots of other exciting news and lessons! May 2023 News Howdy guitar friend, Hope this newsletter finds you well! Things are pretty exciting in JustinGuitarLand - we've finished most of the heavy backend work we've been working on and have just started cooking up a new fun tool called The Strumming Machine. More about that very soon! This month, I released some [new song lessons]( and another [Practical Music Theory]( workbook. Also super exciting is the Grade 3 addition to my [Lessons & Songs App]( I'm also saying goodbye to my awesome [Suhr Alt-T Electric Guitar, which can be yours for only £3](. This raffle's revenue will support some very cool website developments we know you will love! So, let's get into this month's menu and talk more about what's up. :) May Highlights - New Song Lessons: from Harry Styles to the Pixies! - Beginner Grade 3: now available on my app. - Raffle: Win my Suhr Alt-T! - Practical Music Theory: New Workbook! - Merch: 10% off Da Vinci Collection - Community: Topic Highlights! - Life Stuff... [Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da - The Beatles]( This song is great for all levels: beginners can play it with easy open chords, while advanced players can add fancy stuff. We'll learn a different version from other covers, often with a capo on Fret 1. Our capo will be on Fret 3, so we avoid barre chords, and adding the bassline and embellishments is easier. [Where Is My Mind? - Pixies]( Up for a great barre chords workout on the acoustic guitar? :) This lesson includes the awesome electric guitar riffs too! The acoustic guitar can be pretty complex, but we'll look at a simplified version and then add details if you want to make it 'authentic'. ;) [I Was Only 19 - Redgum]( This powerful song about the Vietnam War is well-known in Australia (my home country if you didn't know!) :) 💙 This lesson was my Anzac Day tribute to everyone who has served in the armed forces. I have massive respect for y'all - it's a tough gig. [Watermelon Sugar - Harry Styles]( This song is a great grower. Beginners can keep it simple with just four easy chords, more advanced players can add the riff and funky barre chords. Lots of fun things to explore! 👉 Get verified tabs, chords, and lyrics to all my song lessons with [JustinGuitarTabs](. :) [View All Songs]( Do you have a favorite JustinGuitar product or subscription? Please [send me]( a testimonial. :) Big News - and the Spring Sale is still up! I'm excited to announce that Grade 3 is now available on the [JustinGuitar Lessons & Songs App]( This addition makes my app your ULTIMATE Beginner Guitar Course, as you'll be able to learn from the beginning, consolidate your skills, and get ready to crack on the Intermediate level. Grade 3 contains 8 new modules full of lessons to help you explore chords, develop your singing skills, navigate the fretboard, get a taste of open tuning, vibrato, and much more! To celebrate and help you get started, you can still benefit from the Spring Sale and [get 20% off your first-year subscription]( to the JustinGuitar Lessons & Songs App. If you already have the app, please update it to see the new content. :) Enjoy! 🚨 Please note that the app and the website don't sync or share user account information; please have separate accounts and subscriptions when using both platforms. [Learn With My App!]( My Suhr Alt-T Electric Guitar Can Be Yours For Only £3! I've used this awesome electric guitar in many lessons and played it around the world and in many different workshops. It's completely up to you. :) If you win, I'll send this guitar to you using insured international shipping, or you can pick it up in person if you fancy a trip over - I'm in the United Kingdom! By entering this raffle, you're also helping me finance new free website projects and content. I have many exciting cool features cooking up, and all the money with this raffle will be destined for them. So thank you. 💙 [Buy Your Raffle Ticket!]( Triad Chord Theory & Practice Workbook Available! Our first [Practical Music Theory - Intermediate Grade 4 module]( is about Triad Chords. We'll learn the relationship between chords and scales and how they come together in keys. The lessons have practical exercises to help you memorize the four types of triad formulas and how to apply them to a Major Scale. It's easier than it sounds. :) And now, a [new workbook]( is available for that module to facilitate your learning! Ps.: Grades 3+ of my Practical Music Theory Course are available with a monthly or yearly subscription. However, following my mission to teach the world to play, I'll grant you free access to that program if you genuinely can't afford to pay for it! Please [reach out to](mailto:hello@justinguitar.com?subject=JustinGuitarAssist%3A%20PMT)[my team](mailto:hello@justinguitar.com?subject=JustinGuitarAssist%3A%20PMT) to learn more. [Learn Practical Theory]( Enjoy 10% Off my Da Vinci Merch Collection! Many people don't know this, but Leonardo Da Vinci was a massive fan of 90s Rock guitar. 🤣 This design is based on his original sketch before he tamed it down for public release. Historians believe this iconic sketch was based on Eddie Van Halen and Peter Townsend... 😅 Anyway - this design is a great conversation starter! And the best news is that the [t-shirts]( [tops]( [crop tops]( and [hoodies]( are super comfortable and flattering, and the [mugs]( are dishwasher and microwave safe! :) 🏷️ Until Monday midnight, you can [enjoy 10% off any Da Vinci Merch product]( and even combine that with free shipping - restrictions may apply; use code FREESHIP in orders over $55. No promo code is required for the 10% off; the discount will be applied at checkout! [Shop With Discount]( Want to Practice with Other Students? I saw a cool post the other day in the Community, and I'd like to tell y'all to do the same! If you'd like to learn with another student, post your offer in the [Community topic]( about that course! Remember: you can find the Community Discussion tab below each video lesson on the site! :) No Longer Need That Gear? :) I always get emails from students who have gear they no longer use and would like to give away to other students who may need them. I cannot get involved in those trades/giveaways, but I encourage you to [announce your gear]( or keep an eye [here]( if you need something! Thank you, and good luck! They'll be happy to assist you! Life Stuff... Lucky me - I got another ski holiday in early April. This time to Val d'Isere in France, and gosh, it was beautiful. I'd never been before and was worried it would be uncomfortably swanky, but it didn't feel like that. The skiing was incredible, had sunny weather every day except one, in which there was a snowstorm, which was fun and exciting to ski in! I got 'in the zone' a few times, which was very cool… that turning point where you feel more than you think. My daughter Vivi is doing great too, and can confidently follow along on blue runs - super cool. Since then, it's been crazy busy catching up, but I had a mega-productive week when I got back and filmed a load of song lessons; some killer tunes are coming your way in the coming weeks. Feeling great on my Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey, I'm making progress, and things are starting to feel more relaxed. I did get myself some cauliflower ear last week, which needed draining - so I will be wearing ear protection from here on in! I read the excellent book [Atomic Habits]( a while ago, and I'm often reminded of the power of our self-image and how we see ourselves. When I'm at the end of my shower, I remind myself, "I am a guy that takes a cold shower every day," and by doing it, it's reinforced. Same with being someone who trains BJJ… the doing and the self-image make a powerful cycle. While I play guitar a lot, I've not been 'practicing' much lately, so I'm trying to bring back daily practice - and that involves reminding myself that "I am a musician that practices every day!" and then doing the practice… I can feel the habit getting stronger after just a week and a bit. You might want to explore the self-image side of motivation! I have a ton of things to do - it's my daughter's birthday, and I have to set up her present - Electric Drums! OMG, yes, I will encourage her to learn the drums. My neighbors are going to hate me if she takes to it and wants a real kit! :) I shouldn't admit it - but they're going to be as much for me (maybe more) as they are for her! 📺 What I'm watching... - Not had time to watch much this last month! 📚 What I'm reading... - [Courage by Ryan Holiday]( - Continuing my journey into Stoicism, I've just started this first book in Ryan's series - and it's excellently written and makes a great point for us all to dig deep and use the courage in all of us! 🎶 What I'm listening to... - [Privateering by Mark Knopfler]( - I rediscovered this wonderful album by Mark Knopfler and will be visiting some songs from it soon! Beautiful songs, superb production, and of course, incredible guitar work! - [You Want It Darker by Leonard Cohen]( - How on earth had I missed this album? I love LC's music but somehow missed this album. Heard the title track on an amazing [BBC 6 Music show with Tom Morello]( and been obsessed with it since. Hope the month ahead finds you a guitar in your hands and a smile on your face! :) J. [Explore JustinGuitar]( Copyright © 2023 Justin Guitar Ltd, All rights reserved.
