August 2019 Newsletter
G'day guitar picker!
Hope this newsletter finds you well and happy and making great progress on your guitar! There was newsletter last month, primarily because I've been super mental busy but also because there wasn't much to put in here!
First - big thank you to everyone who subscribes to my YouTube channel, I hit the milestone 1,000,000 subscribers :) I really appreciate every subscriber, like and comment and that y'all dig what I love doing enough for me to make a living doing it! Thank you!
I've also been spending some time working on an original music project, I took a whole week off 'work' to just focus on writing and recording with my best mate Owen and we had a ball and got a stack of stuff done - only one track finished but a lot nearly there! More on that in the coming months. Oh and I got an incredible new amp - the [Audio Kitchen]( Little Chopper. Insane good and all over the new recordings.
Quite a few fun things going on - so on with the news...
New Lessons
Well the lessons might have a been a little on the sparse side the last few months, but I have some really cool things brewing which have been eating a lot of time... but what I have got done I think is real cool.
⢠[How To Use A Looper for Ed Sheeran's Shape Of You]( â¢
Not many people can fill stadium tours playing on their own, but Ed can! Andon of his coolest tools he uses to keep things interesting is a Looper Pedal - I still say that they should be the first pedal people buy - they're a great tool in so many ways and what I thought would be fun is a new series of songs using the looper where I make up the layers and teach you how to do them, with plenty of tips and ideas for experimentation along the way. I hope people dig it because I'm looking forward to doing more!
[⢠New Katana Patches Series â¢](
I know a load of people have bought Boss Katana amps and I think they're really the best budget amp and the quality and depth of the sounds is fantastic. So one thing I thought would be fun was to do more patches but explain the process so you can see how they're created and not just get the patch (teach a man to fish...). I got my friend Toby Pitman along for these lessons - he's a pro sound designer (amoung other things) and really helped out with this - more coming soon!
⢠[Tammy Lesson 7]( [Lesson 8 (Recording Session)]( â¢
Tammy is still working realy hard on her guitar practice and songwriting and so i thought it would be fun to record one of her original tunes and so in Lesson 8 we filmed the whole recording process so you can see all the takes, tips and problems as we go along (even interruptions!). We're now going to work on things to make the recording go even better and then re-record the track from a better demo!
New Website Features
No big feature updates but the big secret project is much further along now and we're testing the UX (User eXperience) and implementing design stuff now - hoping to get some more testers in later this month and maybe public release next month!
Usernames
Usernames have now been stripped of any @ signs (so no email addresses, so if you had one in your username, then please go check it and make it what you want! It was for your own safety!
Extra Save / Completed Buttons
We'd had a load of requests for save and completed buttons at the bottom of lessons as well as under the videos... this is now live and ready to use :) no more scrolling back to the top to mark as completed!
Just X Chords
We also updated the TAGS in the songs filter so you can look for songs with just 2/3/4 chords and they're found automatically by the chords we add for each song, so there are many more now than there were before!
Better Searching
The developers are also working on a better system for searching to add more 'google' type of thing to help people find what they're looking for!
Practical Music Theory
Managed to get 11 new videos done last week for the Scales module (5.3) and did a couple fo rounds of Q7A, hoping to get some more new lessons on analysis done early next week and I have some almost finished additions to earlier in the course as well.
The first couple of grades are free so you get a vibe on what it's like, but the real fun stuff is in Grade 3 where you learn about chords in the key - and remember you get both my old theory books as PDF files (which used to sell for 10 pounds each) with your subscription and it remains at just 9.99 for 6 months - for now ;) [Click Here to check it out!](
New Songs
Not been doing much on songs of late - just so many other things to do and so many people doing songs already... but I'll get back to more soon!
[Shape Of You - Ed Sheeran [LOOPER]](
I already mentioned this one earlier - but adding it her for those that skip to the songs (anyone?). It's super fun - so go check it out!
[Beginner Song Course App](
The big update last month was a switch to using Vimeo to host all the videos in the app - the youTube ads just made it look silly and so this is way better! :)
If you're digging the app, leaving a review (on The App Store or Google Play) is always appreciated and makes a huge difference to sales - many thanks in advance for taking the time to do it!
JustinGuitar Note Trainer App
Yeah, it's taken a while but we now have the Note Trainer App available for Android as well as iOS :)
It's a super effective tool to learn the notes all over the neck of the guitar and there are 4 modes (games) to help you get there as fast as possible. Great fun for downtime between meetings, on a bus or in the loo! Make all your time productive guitar time! :)
Available for [Apple]( and [Android]( - and reviews are greatly appreciated if you dig it! :)
If you're one of the Android users who been asking about me porting all my apps to that platfrm, please got check it out and support us moving all the apps over! :)

Other life stuff...
My life is always too busy, but that's how I like it - we're not here long enough to waste time :) One thing that suffers in my perpetual busy state is time to write and create, and so I took a few weeks off (kinda to celebrate my 1 million YouTube subs) to start work on the solo project I been meaning to crack into for years. So my friend and We Came As Strangers bandmate Owen came over from LA and we spent some time working up a bunch of songs, we got 11 on the cooker in various states and I'll be trying to get them finished off as I can make time - hoping to have one song a month ready for release to keep the flame on my feet and keep it rocking. It's an interesting mix of rock and pop and I really wanted to do something a bit different and it's mostly a vanity project, but hope some of you at least will dig it. Posted a few [instagram]( vids if you want a taste!
Trying to take a few holidays as well, just short breaks cos for sure the summer is coming to a close and the short cold days are on the way... so dusted off my little Eriba caravan and hit the coast a bit. Hopefully, get a few more short breaks in before it gets too miserable!
It's almost the end of my day - I can hear my daughter calling me so I better get upstairs and go play lego as promised! :)
Wishing you much love and laughter! J.
