It's business from the very beginning as "Bludclart" develops with a really natural rolling pace while "Black Mesa" leans things out with vast moments of dubspace, sudden flurries of atmospheres and some crazily stretched bass textures and "Homeward" applies more of a hip-hop/beatsy approach with its vocal cuts and latent funk in the rhythm. Finally "Fat Stacks" kicks its slo-mo heels with a warped sub vibe that really lives up its name. Thelem also plays a crucial role on the trapped out gangbanger "Strawberry Cough" and the minimal, gun-loading paranoia session "Squeeze Off". Each cut running and splashing with some crisp organic feeling drum work, "Endurance" plays with the halfstep arrangement with a perkiness in the hi-hats and dubby synth flutters, "Groundless" takes more of a UKG approach with its momentum gathering kicks while the bass groans are pure gutter. Finally "Jardin Bruxel" bids us adieu with a light housey groove that swings with the soul of a Submotion Orchestra join... Until some subtle snarling basses enter at the final approach. The label have been delivering some of the most innovative and progressive deep bass sounds since launching and the same can be said for Content's career too. Here's proof; the jazzy two-step swing of "Critic", the spooked-out fogginess and unpredictability of "Questions", the slippery space funk of "Short Change" and the utter filth of "Parish Pick-Axe", each cut hitting from a completely different perspective with some remarkable textures and sound designs, the fit between artist and label couldn't be tighter if it tried. It's not. It's heavy, naturally. It gets pretty dark, obviously. But there's that swagger, funk and sense of theatre that's got too much character and realness to be serious. The same can be said for "Pizza" but with added humour, munchies and rare groove. From the ridiculous vocal sample to the brilliantly groovy breakdown, Doctor P is in a good place right now. Be sure to grab a slice of the action (not sorry).]( [Listen]( [Wishlist]( [Buy]( [Seriph]( [Demagog EP]( [Dubstar]( [A veteran of the likes of Dubstar, SUBLMNL and Prime Audio, Serpiph is an American bass producer that's not to be trifled with. This new EP, entitled Demagog, is surely inspired by the new man in the Whitehouse. It features four new cuts, all of which are uncompromising. It begins with "Splicer Priest", a skin crawling, wall climbing, scratching slice of atmospheric dubstep, next is the Japanese and hip-hop influenced "Farther Piece" and "Forge Communion" is writhing electronic monster with operatic vocals. Over a four-minute hyped backing track, we get harsh slice of reality through some pretty honest grime MC'ing. (Explicit)]( [Rinse]( [Rinse FM's hero Faze Miyake has avoided the production game since his eponymous album dropped a couple of years ago. Now he's back with some fiyah in his belly, well on the lead track here at least. "None Of That" sees Miyake at his most aggy, with Merky Ace delivering some fierce and spikey flow over a stop/start haunted hip-hop backing track. There's also a remix that's dubbier with eccentric riddims. This is even more special thanks to the fact that he finally seems to be making music that he enjoys outside of the wobble-bass continuum; Hatched 12 is essentially a collection of cutting-edge dub tracks with a subtle electronic, London sensibility. Take "Breathing", for example, a solid dub stepper that would make the likes of Jah Shaka proud like the lion of Judah. Even "Messenger" is utterly heartical in its approach, and the only time we're faced with a hint of DMZ days is through the louder, brasher bass tones of "Cool N Deadly". FIRE!]( [Listen]( [Wishlist]( [Buy]( [Dubfreq]( [Hatched 11]( [Hatched]( [Legendary dubstep innovator DJ Hatcha bangs out some new gear with this EP from the rising Dubfreq. The young bass soldier settles into these surroundings mightily well, and we're glad to hear some proper, old-school dubstep like the sort mama used to make. "Cepheus" is a fuzzy, subtly noxious little half-step banger that does, indeed, wobble but never goes to far into total oblivion - check those chords! "Last Night" is more sombre, a chilly dubstep lurker that recalls the early days of Skream and the rest of the Tempa crew. Speaking of Tempa, Hatcha himself teams up with Dubreq on "Merky", a bold, gunshot riddim with a bubbling bass, and the duo go into interstellar mode with the broken, disjointed beats and snares of the swampy "Untitled" tune. Badness.]( [Listen]( [Wishlist]( [Buy]( [Hatcha]( [Hatched 10]( [Hatched]( [Originator mandem Hatcha returns to the studio for his first release in almost a year... Both personally and for his label Hatched. The wait, of course, has been worth it; Abstrakt Sonance's "Going In" has yet to come off dub and already Hatcha adds his own deep space VIP twist, "Bawl Out" is all about the gully funk while "I & I" strips back to bare roots. "Blessed" rolls out with a goosebumping intro and jaunty bass/rim-shot riff before we climax with another Abstrakt Sonance cameo as "Breaking & Entering" takes us deep into the sub funk tropics with really twisted FX and process.
