[Juno Download]( [This Week's Selections]( Friday 23 November 2018 [New This Week]( [View all]( [Listen]( [Wishlist]( [Buy]( [Norman Nodge](Nodge/?utm_source=feat_email&utm_medium=feat_email_18-11-19&utm_term=feat_email_all_none&utm_content=feat_email_new+this+week&utm_campaign=feat_email_all_jd) [Embodiment EP]( [Ostgut Ton Germany](Ton+Germany/?utm_source=feat_email&utm_medium=feat_email_18-11-19&utm_term=feat_email_all_none&utm_content=feat_email_new+this+week&utm_campaign=feat_email_all_jd) [It's hard to believe that Berghain resident Norman Nodge released his last EP seven years ago. Since then, techno has undergone seismic change, but as Embodiment demonstrates, the same ground rules still apply. As a veteran DJ, Nodge is ideally placed to articulate a variety of sounds and styles, which he does effortlessly here. There's the dubby, chord-heavy "Tacit Knowing", while on "Discipline", he caters for the main room with a rolling, filtered workout of epic proportions. "Gathering" is more subtle but just as effective thanks to its rolling bongos, while rounding off this seven-year comeback is the evocative, chord-heavy title track, which just keeps on building.]( [Listen]( [Wishlist]( [Buy]( Various [Permanent Vacation 5]( [Permanent Vacation Germany](Vacation+Germany/?utm_source=feat_email&utm_medium=feat_email_18-11-19&utm_term=feat_email_all_none&utm_content=feat_email_new+this+week&utm_campaign=feat_email_all_jd) [Munich's Permanent Vacation are back with the fifth installment of their annual compilation which also marks the longest ongoing series of the imprint. 12 exclusive tracks from old heroes and new stars that strike the full musical spectrum of the label's sound. From blissful percussive balearica (Beesmunt Soundsystem - "Yayang") , hypnotic house (Julian Stetter - "Pearl"/Chloe's "Through The Bells) , fun loving disco (Perel - "Angelika") to dubby affairs (Sascha Funke - "Kaleidoskop") , emotional electronica (Personal Message - "Nightmare In The Daylight") and glistening cosmic magic like on "Theme For The Lost World".]( [Listen]( [Wishlist]( [Buy]( Various/[Illyus & Barrientos](%2526+Barrientos/?utm_source=feat_email&utm_medium=feat_email_18-11-19&utm_term=feat_email_all_none&utm_content=feat_email_new+this+week&utm_campaign=feat_email_all_jd) [Best Of Toolroom 2018]( [Toolroom]( [As you'd expect, given the label's runaway success over the past few years, there are plenty of very familiar cuts on this 52-track 'best of' from the all-conquering Toolroom, including GotSome's tribal smash 'Nomad Chat', label boss Mark Knight's infuriatingly catchy, flute-driven Shovell collab 'Selecao', Mendo's sample-heavy G-houser 'Mooving' and CamelPhat's remix of Fatboy Slim. But there are plenty of less heavily rinsed gems on offer too, and with tracks from the likes of D.Ramirez, Leftwing & Kody, Dosem, DJ S.K.T and Dale Howard plus reworks of Sterling Void and Todd Terry classics, it's a no-brainer for tech-house jocks on a budget.]( [Listen]( [Wishlist]( [Buy]( [Nocow]( [Atoner]( [Rekids]( [Saint Petersburg-based producer Aleksei Nikitin aka Nocow debuted on Rekids - the estemmed imprint run by Matt Edwards - last year with his impressive Samaya Dolgaya Noch EP, and has previously released on labels like Clone Royal Oak, Figure and Fauxpas Musik. His new offering Atoner will be his eighth full length and is a vibrant body of work which spans everything from hypnotic techno, smack electro, ambient and the zeitgeist of early 90s rave as well as raw house jams.]( [Listen]( [Wishlist]( [Buy]( [Joeski]( [Mind Funk]( [Dirtybird US](US/?utm_source=feat_email&utm_medium=feat_email_18-11-19&utm_term=feat_email_all_none&utm_content=feat_email_new+this+week&utm_campaign=feat_email_all_jd) [New York house music veteran Joeski has come back with a vengeance and has been electrifying dancefloors with his direct and no nonsense approach. It has earned him some acclaimed remixes of late on the likes of top labels such as Knee Deep In Sound, Hot Creations and Poker Flat. His new release comes courtesy of west coast bass-house institution Dirtybird - and let's just say that the man definitely had the right credentials to get onboard with this lot. Just wait for that rolling main-room boompty bass that rocks the place - after the massive drop of course on "The Sound Like This". Taking it into deeper and hypnotic territory for the late night is Tha Rmx.]( [Listen]( [Wishlist]( [Buy]( [Rhyw]( [Cave Walls (Part Two)]( [Avian]( [In the techno firmament, Shifted's Avian is one of the most respected labels, but Rhyw aka Alex Tsiridis has risen admirably to the challenge here. Following on from last year's first instalment, he opens the second volume with the gentle drones of "Karhide", before putting his head down to drop the supple rhythms of "Happening RN", a hypnotic piece of techno that has shades of Regis. "Opportunist" is similar in structure, but sees Rhyw deliver a more tunnelling groove, while on the grandiosely titled "Byzantine Mahogany" the mood shifts towards a grungy, bass-heavy workout. Rounding this impressive second outing is the abstract "All Structures Are Unstable".]( [Listen]( [Wishlist]( [Buy]( [MC Bassman](Bassman/?utm_source=feat_email&utm_medium=feat_email_18-11-19&utm_term=feat_email_all_none&utm_content=feat_email_new+this+week&utm_campaign=feat_email_all_jd) [Heavy & Dark (Serum & Bou & Simula Remix)]( [Souped Up](Up/?utm_source=feat_email&utm_medium=feat_email_18-11-19&utm_term=feat_email_all_none&utm_content=feat_email_new+this+week&utm_campaign=feat_email_all_jd) [MCs don't come much more legendary than Birmingham's Bassman, labels don't come much more on point than Souped Up: Everything about this release stacks up in our favour. And that's before we get to the fact the remixes of Bassman's 2009 classic are none other than Serum and Bou & Simula. First up we find the label boss diving deep with his signature sheet metal groans while men-of-the-moment Bou & Simula get jiggy with more of a trippy, haunted rippled effect. Remixes don't come much more hench than this.]( [Listen]( [Wishlist]( [Buy]( [Yam Who?](Who%3F/?utm_source=feat_email&utm_medium=feat_email_18-11-19&utm_term=feat_email_all_none&utm_content=feat_email_new+this+week&utm_campaign=feat_email_all_jd) / [Jaegerossa]( [Yam Who? & Jaegerossa - Grateful feat Jacqui George]( [Z Records](Records/?utm_source=feat_email&utm_medium=feat_email_18-11-19&utm_term=feat_email_all_none&utm_content=feat_email_new+this+week&utm_campaign=feat_email_all_jd) [Re-edit veterans Yam Who? team up with Preston soulful/disco-house duo Jaegerossa for this EP on Dave Lee's Z Records label, with two mixes of 'Grateful' on offer. The Original is quite a happy-clappy affair, sporting a gospel chorus and a lead vocal from Jacqui George while brass and strings help to keep the energy up. The accompanying Tweaked Mix isn't hugely different, truth be told, but does strip the sound palette back a little to let the percussion shine through. Expect to be hearing this a lot in the specialist soulful house clubs for the next little while...]( [Listen]( [Wishlist]( [Buy]( [Aztek]( [Synesthesia EP SINGLE OF THE WEEK]( [Indigo Movement](Movement/?utm_source=feat_email&utm_medium=feat_email_18-11-19&utm_term=feat_email_all_none&utm_content=feat_email_new+this+week&utm_campaign=feat_email_all_jd) [We were very excited when this one began to knock on our door as the magnificent Indigo Movement return alongside the futuristic 140 sounds of Aztek with his super 'Synesthesia' project. We begin with the airy textures and exciting movements of the title track 'Synesthesia', before it then gets dark and grimey on 'Sippy Cup' as grizzly synths and shuffling drums get to work. The vibes continue a plenty on 'Wide Eyed' with a stripped back composition and spooky stabs, before we finish up the EP with a look at 'Behind Enemy Lines', a classic grime shellout, complete with electric horn melodies and military drum marches.]( [Listen]( [Wishlist]( [Buy]( [Sven Vath](Vath/?utm_source=feat_email&utm_medium=feat_email_18-11-19&utm_term=feat_email_all_none&utm_content=feat_email_new+this+week&utm_campaign=feat_email_all_jd) [Sven Vath In The Mix - The Sound Of The 19th Season]( [Cocoon Germany](Germany/?utm_source=feat_email&utm_medium=feat_email_18-11-19&utm_term=feat_email_all_none&utm_content=feat_email_new+this+week&utm_campaign=feat_email_all_jd) [It's hard to believe that it's been almost two decades since Sven Vath's Cocoon night and label decamped to Ibiza, bringing techno to the island's masses. Of course it was never that simple, and as the 19th instalment of Vath's annual mix series shows, there was always a deeper side to Cocoon parties. This is articulated in the form of DJ Ease's remix of his own Nightmares on Wax project, Love Over Entropy's beautiful deep house / techno track "9576" and the spine-tingling piano keys of Adam Port's "Do You Still Think of Me?" That said, Vath still has his finger on techno's pulse as the building "Dark Commodore' by Fabrice Lig and the rolling, filtered and aptly named "Cocoon" by Ilario Alicante demonstrate.]( [Listen]( [Wishlist]( [Buy]( [Ray Keith](Keith/?utm_source=feat_email&utm_medium=feat_email_18-11-19&utm_term=feat_email_all_none&utm_content=feat_email_new+this+week&utm_campaign=feat_email_all_jd) [Dub Riddim/Killa Sound]( [Jungle Cakes](Cakes/?utm_source=feat_email&utm_medium=feat_email_18-11-19&utm_term=feat_email_all_none&utm_content=feat_email_new+this+week&utm_campaign=feat_email_all_jd) [The renegade don returns... Ray Keith is back on Jungle Cakes with two more slabs of brutal newness. "Killa Sound" is the scud of the release; capable of swiping entire dancefloors off their collective feet, it's a powerful amen serenade with all the sirens and necksnaps your peaktime gully section could ever require (and a little more) "Dub Riddim" takes us much deeper into the heart of the Dread Warrior's psyche with much more a minimal arrangement leaving stacks of space for the humungous subs to rattle you down to the very bones.
