It's also no surprise to find that the Run Tings EP is packed with playable material. Saucer-eyed, retro-futurist opener "Who Run Tings", for example, underpins jaunty, Inner City style stabs and piano riffs with corking, hip-house style breakbeats, while "Awakening" offers a slightly more muscular, big room-friendly take on the turn-of-the-'90s piano house blueprint. Shan deviates further from the script on the Nu Groove style vintage deep house musicality of "English Summer" and deep '80s synth-pop-meets-deep house flex of closer "Take Me To The Top".]( [Listen]( [Wishlist]( [Buy]( [Wehbba]( [Catarse]( [Drumcode Sweden](Sweden/?utm_source=feat_email&utm_medium=feat_email_18-07-23&utm_term=feat_email_all_none&utm_content=feat_email_new+this+week&utm_campaign=feat_email_all_jd) [Wehbba follows his recent Eclipse release for Drumcode with this killer four-track EP. First up is "She's Lost Control"; despite sharing the same name as a well-known Joy Division song, Wehbba's track is laced in acid and full of break downs and builds, with some out there rave stabs thrown in for good measure. "Process" is just as effective; centred on a rolling rhythm, heavy chord stabs and moody vocal snatches, its use of rolling snares will guarantee it maximum dance floor impact. The title track is more understated, and its atmospheric organ riffs make it reminiscent of the output of mid-90s techno labels like Holland's Prime or Music Man. Granted, the title track still features vocals, but the chords surge menacingly, the kicks are steely and heavy and there are surges of noisy bass throughout. "Haunted" is more understated and stripped back, focusing on the Swedish producer's ability to weave together hypnotic, minimal house. However, his melodic sensibility is still audible in the tripped out hooks that rise up through the arrangement. They have gone back over their work and picked out some of their favourites over the years - a whopping 18 tracks, 19 remixes and a continuous mix by Harris. Speaking of the remixes: the Dumont & Wagener remix of "Human Love" gets onto an emotive and Balearic tinged trip, the remix of "Electric Love" by NYC house hero Eli Escobar remix gets well funky, and the always impressive Parisian Fred Falke delivers a typically neon-lit rendition of "Emma" from several years back. With a strong barbed neon 80s futurist aesthetic running throughout, the album leaves no D&B stone unturned: hair raising physical funk ("Body Movin'") raw tech terror ("Cyborg") smouldering sci fi soul ("Labyrinth"), massive main room muscle ("Shoot 2 Kill"), unclassifiable jungle/halftime soul ("Who Are You"), sing along spine tinglers ("Wild Child") and a whole load more in between. This time he teams up with Tru Thoughts to release his brand new single 'Shell A Verse', a dancehall infused shackout, built up with triplet drum patterns and pulsating subs, topped off with dubbed out chord delays and subtle horn section pressure. We kick off with 'Cuatrocats' which brings energy through squelchy bass waves and perfectly processed 4x4 drum patterns in typical Phlegmatic fashion. On the flip we are introduced to 'Bounce', which takes a more techy experimental route, with subtle subs rolling lose amidst heavily attacking bass stabs and yet more precise drum design. Second orginal offering "DMT" is a more moody and tunnelling affair for those build-up moments, when the strobelight and smoke machine get turned on. "Limbo" slams, "Feel" twists a gurgling gutter kicking jam into a vocal daydream while "The Truth" sees him teaming up with fellow Southpoint success Bushbaby for a balls-out breakbeat sandpaper bass jam. Karsa steps up first with a dubby and dreamy, breakbeat-driven interpretation, before Prins Emmanuel delivers a "Boot Dub" that effectively re-casts the track as a loose and languid acid jack-track.
