[City Song EP](
[Classic](
[While Eli Escobar's recent album, Shout, was undeniably superb, there's little doubt in our eyes that "City Song" and "City Song Part 2: Love & Happiness" were amongst the standouts. Here, both tracks are given the remix treatment. Munich twosome COEO handles "City Song", transforming the dubbed-out, disco-influenced deep house original version into a sparkling, piano-heavy chunk of classic, late '90s New York house complete with fluttering vocal samples and oceans-deep chords. The more organic and disco-fired "City Song Part 2" is re-imagined in contrasting ways by Escobar and Ron Basejam. While the latter's Crazy P-plus-acid lines version is fine (the funk-fuelled synths are particularly ear-catching), we're slightly preferring the sweaty, restless disco thump of Escobar's own rework.](

[When it comes to crafting lengthy, disco fired dancefloor treats, DJ Koze has previous form. His "Extended Disco Version" of Lapsley's "Operator" quickly became a White Isle anthem in the summer of 2016, and we fully expect "Pick Up" to be one of the disco-house hits of 2018. Based around spine-tingling samples from a heart-felt, orchestrated 1970s disco treat - think Tom Trago's "Use Me Again", and you're close - the veteran producer slowly builds the pressure before really letting loose in the closing stages. Then "The Love Truck" is an altogether deeper, dubbier and dreamier affair, seemingly designed for leisurely warm-up sets and gentle, early morning shuffling.](

[Days Gone](
[Afterlife](
[Italian power duo Mind Against are back, serving up some surefire dancefloor drama for comrades Tale Of Us on their esteemed Afterlife imprint. Featuring the dreamy and mesmerising "Days Gone" which could have been equally at home of Lee Burridge's All Day I Dream imprint; with its lush orchestral arrangements, hypnotic bell textures and sublime use of melodies just begging to played at open air rooftop parties in the Summer. Rest assured all the epic and wonky synth leads are featured throughout, in glorious fashion: it's their trademark after all right? On a more moody and serious tip is next offering "Cloud Nine", an immersive and tunnelling excursion through the progressive house sound, full of shimmering arpeggios and complex rhythm arrangements that reverberate through endless layers of delay and reverb. The remix up next by Berlin stalwart Alex.Do (Dystopian) is respectful and doesn't deviate dramatically from the original, instead emphasising certain layers for added dancefloor dynamics.](

[Calling Out (Remixes)](
[Classic](
[There's no doubt that Sophie Lloyd and Dames Brown's "Calling Out" - a gospel-disco stomper built around bold piano riffs, killer grooves and a strong, sing-along chorus - is fast becoming one of the anthems of 2018. This package doesn't boast the spine-tingling original, but rather some alternate takes from Floorplan (AKA Detroit techno legend Rob Hood and daughter Lyric Hood) and scalpel maestro Danny Krivit. The two Floorplan revisions naturally drag the track further towards storming gospel-house territory, with the fantastic Revival Mix - all crunchy Chi-Town drums, wild organs, jaunty pianos and relentless chorus - hitting home especially hard. Krivit, meanwhile, does a terrific job of teasing out the track before brilliantly alternating between Brown's jangling pianos solos and the killer chorus. Basically, Krivit's ten-minute take is arguably the definitive version.](

[Although still best known for delivering high grade reworks and re-edits, Adesse Versions has previously released some killer original productions, too. Predictably, the three sample-heavy house jams included on this debut Delusions of Grandeur experience are pretty darn hot. Check, in particular, the Clavinet-heavy Blaxploitation bounce of "Pulp Fusion", where sampled '70s instrumentation rides a bouncy, filter-flaunting house groove. Or, for that matter, the lolloping, undulating, glassy-eyed sweetness of the sun-kissed, extra percussive "Fade Out", which makes use of elements from a particularly Balearic disco record. Flip to the B-side for "Raw (Live Edit), a bustling, big room friendly jack-track that sounds like a long lost David Morales Red Zone Dub.](

Here we see him team up with Newham Generals' own: Footsie for a dubstep driven tearout with beefy lead synths and super crunchy drums topped with trapstyle lyricism. [Back in the day, D.C LaRue was one of the undoubted stars of the underground disco scene, so it makes perfect sense that Z Records boss Dave Lee has bagged a swathe of new remixes. Lee dons the familiar Joey Negro alias to kick things off with a brilliant extended interpretation of all-time LaRue fave "Cathedrals", before Ron Basejam wraps spacey synth solos and fluttering flutes around a killer slow disco groove on his fantastic rub of "Do You Want The Real Thing". Elsewhere, Glitterbox regular Dr Packer provides a rolling, delay-laden take on "Indiscreet" rich in killer disco interpretation that could well be the EP's highlight, while the Idjut Boys serve up a typically trippy, dub disco powered "Beats" version of "Let Them Dance".](

[It was always going to be a hard act to follow the heavyweight line-up of label founders and main artists that featured on Speicher 100, but Anna has not been outdone. The Brazilian-Spanish producer's sound is at the harder end of what the storied Kompakt sub-label usually releases, but it's still of the highest quality. "Hidden Beauties" is a big room, acid-heavy workout powered by a grungy bass and massive break downs and builds. On "The Dansant", the mood is even bleaker; Anna drops an evil, belching sub that provides the back drop for rolling snares and a visceral, filtered riff.](

[This is the second volume of remixes of C Cat Trance material. The 80s band's music was previously reworked by JD Twitch and Die Orangen, and this EP is just as impressive. Israeli duo Red Axes deliver a rumbling, tribal take on "Shake the Mind", while on his version of "Take Me To The Beach", UK DJ Jamie Paton lays down a sprawling, messy workout. Prins Thomas soon picks up the groove again though, and the Norwegian's version of "Sudaniyya" is a subtle disco affair, led by clipped drums and gamelan percussion. Finally, on their taken on "Simple Helen", Romanian pair Khidja drop a terse, dub-fuelled piece of mood music.](

[Berlin-based Korean Peggy Gou has been surprisingly quiet since first bursting onto the scene back in 2016. Here, she returns to action having graduated from Technicolour to parent label Ninja Tune. Many may already have heard EP standout "It Makes You Forget (Itgehane)", a percussively ambidextrous beast based around a bouncy, off-skilter, snare-heavy rhythm track. It has been much discussed online after Gou included it her recent Resident Advisor podcast. Then you'll find tracks representative of her developing style, which draws together elements of European deep house, electro, early '90s U.S house, the rubbery disco eccentricity of Maurice Fulton and the instinctive polyrhythms more often found in traditional African music.](

Started as a casual side project 12 years ago, Baron wanted to 'capture the more diverse and quirky sides of his musical tastes', creating underground music that he incorporates with character, personality and humour. The After The Rain EP sees him return to Bristol institution Futureboogie, for the first time since 2016's "The Carrington Spirituals". Featuring the very soulful and near spiritual title track, the lo-slung funk attack of "The French Exit " and the late night acid express of "Raise" (featuring some vocals reminiscent of the legendary Daryl Pandy) among others - each one is a a sure shot and will light up the dancefloor.](

[For a banger that apparently doesn't smoke, Deekline's seminal "I Don't Smoke" has certainly been smouldering. At any point in the last 19 years, you can drop any version of this UK bass classic and expect it to cause riots in the dance. And now there's a whole new slew of refixes to cause chaos with: Vital Techniques' switchy, twitchy breakbeat flex, Deadbeats jaw-dropping bassline whip-up, DJ Spookz warped slug sesh, Lucent's fluttering beat tipped-out bashment roller, Fish's wonked-out technoid bassline twist and Majora's stripped back UK funky deep house hybrid. [You Are Safe Remixes](
[Keinemusik](
[Late last year, the producers behind the Keinemusik label came together to pen an album under the same name. Now the German label and the Keinemusik protagonists - Rampa, Adam Port and &Me - have commissioned remixes of tracks from the long player. First up is Life & Death boss DJ Tennis, who is tasked with reworking "You Are Safe". Using eerie synths, clattering drums and electro bass pulses, he turns the track into a hypnotic house track. For the second remix, Frankey & Sandrino take to the controls. The pair's version of "Guilt Trip" is slower and more understated, but the atmospheric textures and subtle pulses are as memorable as the DJ Tennis remake.](

[In recent times, Krystal Klear's EPs have wholeheartedly paid tribute to a variety of (mostly New York-based) historic clubs, artists and dance music sub-genres. While he's officially broken the spell with The Division EP - his first outing on Running Back - for the most part it's still a heart-warming, retro-futurist treat. He kicks things off with the cheery, Italo-disco revivalism of "Neutron Dance", where throbbing synthesizer arpeggio lines and mid-80s melodies are underpinned by a bustling mid-tempo house groove, before slowing things down via the Balearic synth-pop shuffle of "Division Ave". Then you'll find more muscular, freestyle-meets-acid house fun (wild and mind-altering peak-time highlight "Shockzoid") as well as the baggy, glassy-eyed Balearic house rush of closer "Moonshake Mike".](

[This two-tracker from Local Talk - originally released in limited numbers on vinyl - appears to be the result of some smart thinking on behalf of the Swedish label. It sees ordained minister and all-round Detroit house and techno legend Terrence Parker put his slant on two of the most gospel-influenced cuts in the imprint's sizeable back catalogue. Parker first works his magic on Jamie 326 and Masalo's "Testify", serving up a bouncy, all-action peak-time house rub full of crunchy Clavinet lines, bold piano riffs, heavy organ stabs and inspiring gospel vocal snippets. Arguably even better is the Detroiter's interpretation of Art of Tones' "I Just", which looks to classic piano house for inspiration with predictably fine results.](

[It was only a matter of time before The Maghreban stepped up on a legendary dance imprint like R&S Records. The London-based house and techno craftsman has received nothing but praise off the back of his 12"s for his own Zoot label, with everyone from Actress to Nina Kraviz having played his tunes out in the rave. 01 Ideas is his first full-lengther, and it's clear that this producer has a lot more to say than a few quirky dance tracks. This release is full of life and meaning, pacing itself with each new cut instead of banging out the rave anthems hither and dither. There are elements of house and techno, of course, but these are infused with a sensibility for something altogether more abstract, like noise, power electronics and even something industrial. What is truly impressive is how The Maghreban brings it all back to the Levant, a distant yet perceptible influence at the core of all these tunes.](

[There's no sign of "difficult second album syndrome" to be found on All That Must Be, George Fitzgerald's follow-up to 2015 debut full-length Fading Love. In fact, you could say it's something of a triumph. It was written over an 18-month period and tracks the highs and lows of his private life, largely by eschewing his club-rocking roots in favour of songs and instrumentals that bristle with melancholy, gentle melodiousness and ear-catching electronic instrumentation. Of course, it's still rooted in contemporary club sounds, its just more James Blake or Jamie XX than, say, old pal Will Saul or Special Request.
