[View this email in your browser]( Friends, hello! The truth about this photo? I finagled my friends into celebrating Thanksgiving with me in the depths of July in New Orleans for [Southern Living Magazine](. All for the sake of [Turkey Pot Pie]( and [Pumpkin Caramel Cake](. I suppose this week marks my second Friendsgiving of the year! Our meal will be part pot luck, pie celebration, part fingers-crossed-we're-frying-a turkey, all the way fun. I hope you find ease this week. I know it can be hectic times with travel and traffic and grocery shopping and general relationship navigation. I'm wishing you peace and gratitude. Here are a few ideas to keep you going this week. Love from me to you! xo Joy Here are the recipes getting me through fall. October's most popular post: [Cacio e Pepe Beignets]( - these fried savory cheese gems were a real hit with all of you! If you make just one thing this week (and I know you're likely on track to make at least thirty things) PLEASE MAKE my Dad's perfect [Sweet Potato Pie](. It's our family tradition. It's beautifully spiced. It's 100% better than pumpkin pie don't come @ me. Put this year's mashed potatoes on HIGH this year with [Sweet and Savory Mashed Potatoes]( topped with fried onion strings. Literally no one will be mad. You might think you don't like brussels sprouts but maybe you've just never had them literally soaked in cheese sauce. Ya know? [Creamy Smoked Gouda Brussels Sprouts](. A recipe for a pretty fool-proof, always moist bundt cake combined with an easy caramel and I present to you: [Vanilla Bean Bundt Cake with Pecan Praline Glaze](. We've hosted lost of good times at [The Bakehouse]( this month. A December holiday market is in the works - stay tuned for an announcement this Friday on [@thebakehousenola](. Recently at The Bakehouse we celebrated [Now & Again]( from chef, author and friend, Julia Turshen. We sipped champagne, enjoyed snacks from the book, and we had the chance to ask Julia all our burning questions about cooking, cookbook authorship, puppies, reality television and fighting the good fight. My friends [Andrea Slonecker]( and [Dana Frank]( visited The Bakehouse in New Orleans to promote their latest cookbook, [Wine Food](. We enjoyed a cooking demonstration, coaxed a souffle out of the oven together, learned the nuances of sparkling wine and filled our hearts and bellies. We also welcomed bakers at The Bakehouse for a pie-making workshop - it's my absolute favorite time of year! . Everyone went home with a homemade all-butter pie crust and my Dad's famous made-from-scratch Sweet Potato Pie filling to bake at home and wow their Thanksgiving guests. Just sharing the love the best way we know how. Here's what I'm listening to: [American Routes]( I heard snippets of this episode of American Routes in the car running errands this weekend and immediately went home to relisten in its entirety. It would make for mighty fine Thanksgiving prep listening. [Bodies]( A truly thoughtful, raw, honest, and candid podcast about women's bodies. Listen to some of the profound things we go through in these bodies. Listen to the topics we sometimes hold only to ourselves, discussed. [Amos Lee - What's Going On]( The whole album My New Moon is beautiful, and a few new songs have been added on Spotify - this is one of my favorite renditions. Here's what I'm reading: [The Art of Gathering]( This book has changed the way I gather folks at my house. It's all about intention and thoughtfulness. I'm also really curious about a new book, [Belong]( - a book about finding your community and connection. There's a theme here - it's connection. Let's find it! Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy these days.
