I wanted to reach out personally and let you know what this means for you, and what I’m doing to fight for a woman’s right to choose. On Friday night, a far-right federal judge issued a ruling overturning FDA approval of the abortion medication mifepristone. This decision single-handedly puts the health of millions of women at risk. This decision does not go into effect until Friday, April 14th — but the Biden administration has already filed an appeal, and the fight is just beginning. Here’s what you need to know right now: - Abortion is still legal in New Jersey. Even if the Mifepristone ban is upheld, reproductive freedom is not under threat in pro-choice states like New Jersey. - Mifepristone is safe and still available in New Jersey. Mifepristone has been authorized by the FDA for more than 20 years, and evidence shows that it is safer than Tylenol. While reproductive freedom is still safe in New Jersey, let me be clear that this decision is an outrage. Far-right extremists continue to attack a woman’s bodily autonomy and personal privacy. If upheld, this decision will lead to women dying. In 2016, I ran for Congress against an anti-choice extremist with the promise that I would fight to defend the right to choose. As your Congressman, I have fought to ensure that every individual can make their own decisions about their health, and I’m not about to stop. This decision is a setback, but those of us fighting for reproductive freedom stand with the majority of the country. I will not back down from this fight.
