On this Mother's Day

I’ve often said that being a dad to Ellie and Ben is the most rewarding job I have, and I know my wife Marla feels the same way. Like all of you, we’ve had a tough couple of years. My family has made it through the ups and downs because of Marla. My wife is courageous, strong, brilliant, and loving. On this journey of representing you and your family in Congress, she’s been an integral part of my success — I couldn’t do this without her. As I often say, my wife is Wonder Woman. I literally don’t know how she does it all. Today is also bittersweet for me. My mom, Gwenn, passed away in 2018. While I miss her terribly, I celebrate the life she created for me. As a preschool teacher, my mom saw the absolute best in our children and community. I would not be where I am without her love, guidance, faith, and confidence she had in me. I think about her, and miss her, every single day. My mom taught me the importance of working hard and giving back — a lesson that still drives me to do my best in every avenue of my life. However you’re celebrating today, let’s take a moment to be thankful for the moms in our lives and to be thankful for everything they do.
