[Take Off] [Article Icon 1] Biden Delivers State of the Union Speech President Biden delivered the [State of the Union address]( last night before a joint session of Congress. His Democratic colleagues cheered as [he touted]( his record on the economy, job creation, American manufacturing, and labor unions in a campaign-style speech that [critics marked]( as unusually partisan for a SOTU address. Biden referred to former President Trump as “my predecessor” [and attacked]( Republicans by invoking January 6, Roe V. Wade, taxes, the border, and prescription drugs. The President had several gaffes during his speech. The most profound was referring to Laken Riley, the nursing student murdered by an illegal immigrant last month, as [Lincoln Riley](, after Margerie Taylor Green [interrupted the speech]( and goaded Biden into speaking about the murder. He referred to the killer as an "illegal," a choice of words that angered some Democrats. [Article Icon 1] TikTok Crackdown Bill Clears Committee A House bill [demanding TikTok to break]( with Chinese parent company ByteDance cleared committee in a 50-0 vote on Thursday. It's expected to receive a full vote in the House. If passed, the bill will require TikTok and other applications [to divest from Beijing-based ByteDance]( within 180 days of enactment or be banned in America. The legislation also provides the executive branch a path to ban foreign-owned apps. Officials said the bill was necessary [to prevent the Chinese government]( from accessing Americans' personal data. TikTok pushed back on the concerns and said they never shared American data with China. [Article Icon 1] NYC Calls in National Guard to Subways Hundreds of National Guard troops will be deployed to the [New York City subway system]( as part of Gov. Kathy Hochul’s new five-point safety plan to combat a 13% jump in subway crime. The plan also [calls for an additional]( 1,000 police officers, random bag checks, train cameras, mental health outreach, and amending a law to ban repeat offenders.
