The Smokehouse Creek Fire, [Texas’ largest wildfire on record](, is only 15% contained. It's killed two people and consumed more than 1 million acres of homes, businesses, and livestock. Light rain and snow have done little to slow the wildfire, and high winds are expected to fuel the flames. In California, expected powerful winds and [blizzard-like conditions]( have forced the closure of ski resorts and Yosemite National Park. Heavy snow accumulations, tree damage, and power outages are also expected. An official statement said that the university had “[closed its office]( of the chief diversity officer, eliminated DEI positions and administrative appointments, and halted DEI-focused contracts with outside vendors."
