The case involved lawsuits by three couples over the accidental destruction of their frozen embryos. The justices cited language in the state Constitution granting parents the right to sue over the death of a minor child as the basis for their ruling. [“]([Unborn children are ‘children’](. . . without exception based on developmental stage, physical location, or any other ancillary characteristics,” Justice Jay Mitchell wrote in Friday’s majority ruling. The Russians claim that Karelina, an amateur ballerina, participated in pro-Ukraine rallies in the U.S. as well as contributing the money. If convicted, she could serve life in prison.
