In Washington, D.C., the Trump legal team skipped a [Thursday deadline]( to file a petition with the Supreme Court to challenge an appeals court decision that rejected his immunity arguments. The lawsuit holding Trump accountable for the events of January 6th is expected to move forward. [A New York judge]( ruled Friday that Trump and his companies did commit financial fraud and ordered the former President to pay a $355 million fine, plus $98.6 million in "pre-judgment interest." The judge also barred Trump from serving as an officer or director of any New York corporation for three years. Finally, the hearing in Atlanta, Georgia to determine whether or not[Fani Willis]( will remain on the Trump election fraud case concluded. Willis did not testify on the second day, and the judge has yet to render a decision. [Article Icon 1] Putin Rival Dies in Prison [Alexei Navalny](, a leading voice of opposition and anti-corruption in Russia, died Friday while serving a 19-year sentence in an Artic penal colony. He was 47. Russian authorities have not released the cause of the political prisoner’s death, only that Navalny felt sick and collapsed after a walk. [President Biden]( believes Navalny’s death was the work of Russian President Vladimir Putin. “The answer is, we don't know exactly what happened,” Biden said. “But there is no doubt that the death of Navalny was a consequence of something that Putin and his thugs did.” While there was no immediate response, the Biden administration is reportedly exploring[new sanctions and trade restrictions]( on Russia.
