The other 52% are “Independent.” The study is based on a 2022 survey, the [latest in a series]( that began in 1971. At that time, 32% of journalists were Republican and 35% were Democrats. In 1982, only 19% of the media were Republicans; by 2013, ten years ago, it had dropped to 7%. The study makes no claims about the causes of the decline. A [recent Gallup poll](showed that the GOP has far more distrust of the media than Democrats. At the same time, Maine’s top election official, Shenna Bellows, [removed Trump]( from the state’s 2024 ballot in a surprise decision on Thursday following an administrative hearing earlier this month, citing the 14th Amendment “insurrectionist ban.” However, Bellows said her decision would not be enforced until the U.S. Supreme Court weighs in on the Colorado appeal.
