[Take Off] [Article Icon 1] Supreme Court to Review Key Jan. 6 Charges The Supreme Court has agreed to review a case that could [derail hundreds of Jan. 6]( felony prosecutions and impact the criminal charges against Donald Trump. At issue is an appeal by a Jan. 6 defendant who claims the charge of “obstruction of an official proceeding,” based on an Enron-era law designed to punish [the shredding of documents](, shouldn’t be used against the Jan. 6 defendants. The government says the law covers any kind of obstruction and not just physical tampering of documents. It carries a penalty of up to 20 years in jail and has been used in most of the Jan. 6 prosecutions. It’s also one of the charges against Trump.
