More than 40 nations saw declines. In the U.S., math scores dropped 13 points to one of the lowest marks ever recorded. However, U.S. students scored above the global average in reading and science. [Here's a chart comparing them.]( The OECD said the global performance drops were the steepest since 2000 when it first started testing 15-year-olds in reading, math, and science every three years. The group said the decline couldn’t be blamed entirely on COVID school closures, pointing also to the need for extra teacher support and rising mobile phone use in classes.
