When it burns, molten sulfur releases sulfur dioxide, a pollutant that irritates eyes, skin, and the respiratory tract, among other issues. A nearby town [was recommended to evacuate]( on Thanksgiving day as a result. CSX, the company operating the train, paid for lodging and Thanksgiving meals for residents affected. Crews are monitoring the air to determine when locals should return to the area.
