[Take Off] [Article Icon 1] Supreme Court Adopts Formal Ethics Code The Supreme Court has adopted [its first formal code of ethics](, essentially the same code that applies to other federal judges but with special provisions regarding the use of Court staff and accepting gifts from donors. The new code is a response to pressure from Democrats over gifts accepted by Justice Clarence Thomas and others. The Court said the purpose of the new code was to [clarify the rules]( the justices were already following. The ethics code leaves compliance up to the justices, with no enforcement mechanism. That drew [some criticism from Congress,]( but all nine justices agreed on the new rules. [Article Icon 1]U.S. Air Strike Hits Iran Militants in Syria The U.S. launched its [third air strike targeting Iranian militants]( in Syria in retaliation for ongoing attacks against U.S. bases in the region. At least 56 American troops have been injured in those attacks. This weekend’s air strikes [struck a weapons storage facility](and a command center used by the militants. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said strikes will continue if the attacks against U.S. troops don’t stop. The U.S. has 900 troops in Syria and 2,500 more in neighboring Iraq. The military is [ramping up patrols](and intelligence-gathering and left open the possibility of evacuating military families. [Article Icon 1] NFL Parlay Wins Bettor $5.5 Million A Florida bettor [won $5.5 million in profit]( on a $500,000 four-leg NFL parlay that needed four different events to happen in Sunday’s Houston Texans-Cincinnati Bengals game. The bet required the total score to go over 44.5 points, Texas running back Devin Singletary to score a touchdown, Singletary to gain over 51.5 rushing yards, and the Texans to win the game, which only happened on a last-second field goal.
