Matt Gaetz filed a motion Monday [to remove House Speaker Kevin McCarthy]( from his role as Speaker. The House must vote within two days on whether to keep McCarthy in his leadership role. Gaetz and McCarthy have been at angry loggerheads over budget bills for months. Gaetz conceded that McCarthy could [probably survive this first effort]( to oust him, but only if he got Democrats to support him. Few Republicans have expressed interest in ousting McCarthy, and House Democrats have been [mum about supporting the Speaker](. It’s also not at all clear who would replace McCarthy. Gavin Newsom's appointment of Laphonza Butler—leader of the liberal fundraising group Emily’s List—to serve out the late Barbara Feinstein’s Senate term [has already sparked controversy.]( Butler lives in Maryland, but references to her East Coast residence have been scrubbed online, and she says she also has a home in California. Rep. Darrell Issa called it [a potential violation]( of the California constitution. Newsom is appointing a black woman, as he promised he would, but he [passed over Rep. Barbara Lee,]( an iconic black congresswoman who is running for Feinstein’s seat, angering many on the left. Overall, the analysis found that drive-thru speed has [improved by 30 seconds]( since the pandemic, though it’s still a bit slower than in 2019. The fastest service, Taco Bell’s this year, was just short of five minutes, followed by Carl’s Jr. and then KFC. Chick-Fil-A was the slowest at 7-1/2 minutes but was tops in accuracy and food quality. The biggest accuracy issue: Drinks having ice in them despite the order asking for no ice.
