The increase in opposition comes from Republicans, Democrats, and independents, with Republicans the most strongly opposed. But [even a majority of Democrats]( now oppose trans athletes, born as men, competing against women. "The [pendulum has swung too far,]( and people are beginning to see what's at stake if it continues,” said Riley Gaines, a former women’s swimming champion at the University of Kentucky. New Jersey Tops Property Taxes List A new [ranking of all 50 states]( shows New Jersey has the highest property taxes in the U.S. Only NJ and Illinois have property taxes higher than 2%, according to the Tax Foundation. For the 10 states with the lowest property tax, the rate averages closer to 0.5%. The least-taxed state, Hawaii, has a rate of 0.32%. For a $416,000 house, a homeowner in New Jersey would pay $9,279 in taxes compared to a $1,332 tax bill in Hawaii.
