The 5-4 ruling [leaves in place]( a lower court’s decision to block an expansion of sex discrimination rules for schools that many states have opposed. The Biden administration had argued that the updates should be allowed to take effect as scheduled on August 1. Justice Sonia Sotomayor, joined by the court’s two other liberal justices and conservative Justice Neil Gorsuch, dissented, [agreeing with the Biden administration]( that the lower rulings were “overbroad.” [Article Icon 1]Salmonella Outbreak Reaches 31 States A salmonella outbreak linked to recalled cucumbers has reached 31 states and Washington, D.C., sickening at least 449 people, according to new information provided by federal officials. [You can see the outbreak map here](. The salmonella contamination was [initially discovered in June]( and traced back to two growers in Florida. The tainted produce was then transported to wholesalers and distributed in 14 states between May 17 and May 21. The CDC identified [multiple strains of salmonella]( in untreated canal water and soil samples used by the growers. The companies’ produce is no longer in season or on store shelves. While 449 individuals were infected and 125 were hospitalized, authorities believe the actual number is much higher. Lisa Jeanine Findley is accused of [falsely claiming]( that Presley's daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, who died in January 2023, had borrowed $3.8 million, pledged Graceland as collateral, and failed to repay the debt.
