Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito told lawmakers Wednesday that he wouldn’t recuse himself from cases involving the 2020 election after it was reported that an upside-down flag was flown at his house. ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ [The Flyover] [The Flyover]( [Calendar] FRIDAY, MAY 31, 2024 Good Morning! On this date in 2005, Former FBI Assistant Director [W. Mark Felt]( was identified as “Deep Throat,” the secret source who helped unravel the Watergate scandal. We have a big announcement to make! We're ready to start our next state-level edition of The Flyover, and this time we're headed to the Sunshine State. Flyover Florida launches on June 12th, and you can get on the list right now [with one click](. What do you think about our Takeoff stories today? If you have thoughts on our coverage, hit reply and let us know. Today's edition is sponsored by [FinanceBuzz](. Check out their 0% interest credit card offers! [Take Off] [Article Icon 1] Trump Found Guilty by New York Jury A New York jury found former President Donald Trump [guilty on 34 counts]( of falsifying business records, making him the first president to be prosecuted and convicted of a felony. The verdict came after less than 12 hours of deliberation. Trump addressed reporters immediately after, saying he was innocent and the real verdict would come on Nov. 5 when people vote for president. Trump remains free and won’t face any travel restrictions—at least until sentencing, which is [scheduled for July 11.]( His lawyers will likely seek a probationary sentence while they appeal the case. If that first appeal fails, he can appeal further to the state’s highest court, which could take another year. [Article Icon 1]SCOTUS Rules 9-0 in Favor of NRA The Supreme Court [unanimously ruled Thursday]( in favor of the National Rifle Association, saying the group could sue a New York state official for violating the NRA’s First Amendment rights. The opinion, [written by Justice Sonia Sotomayor](, vacated a lower court's ruling that dismissed the NRA's 2018 lawsuit against Maria Vullo, a former superintendent of New York’s Department of Financial Services. The organization claimed Vullo coerced banks and insurers to blackball the NRA in the wake of the 2018 Parkland High School shooting. Thursday’s ruling found that the [NRA “plausibly alleged”]( Vullo selectively wielded her power to punish or suppress the organization’s speech, and it cleared the way for the gun rights group to continue to argue its case in the lower courts. [Article Icon 1] Israel Takes Control of Gaza Border Israel’s military has taken control over the Gaza Strip’s [entire land border,]( including the buffer zone separating the enclave from Egypt, as it deepens its assault on Rafah. U.S., Israeli, and Egyptian officials plan to [meet next week in Cairo]( to discuss strategies for securing that border and reopening it for aid shipments while preventing Hamas from smuggling weapons across it. Israel meanwhile continued to investigate the strike that killed scores of civilians in a camp in Rafah. Military officials say Israel used the smallest bombs their jets can carry and that the fire may have been caused by the [explosion of a Hamas ammo dump]( nearby. --------------------------------------------------------------- We're happy to report that The Flyover keeps growing, now surpassing 676,000 readers thanks to our advertisers and readers like you.
