[Take Off] [Article Icon 1] Supreme Court Weighs Jan. 6 Appeal A majority of Supreme Court justices [appeared open to the argument]( yesterday that the Justice Department misused an obstruction law when prosecuting January 6th protestors. If the argument is successful, [more than 350 defendants]( could have at least part of their convictions overturned. Also at stake are two of the four charges against former President Donald Trump brought by special counsel Jack Smith. The case was brought by a former Pennsylvania police officer [charged with obstruction]( for his actions at the Capitol. Lower courts disagreed with his argument, but the Supreme Court granted review. His lawyers claim the law was meant to prevent destruction of documents in financial crimes and doesn’t cover “obstruction” as part of a protest action.
