It’s not grading papers or waking up at 6AM or even earlier – for me, it was losing students to gun violence. {NAME}, I’m often asked what’s the most difficult aspect of teaching. It’s not grading papers or waking up at 6AM or even earlier – for me, it was losing students to gun violence. In Maryland, firearms are tied as the second leading cause of death in people aged 17 and under. Gun violence against young people not only robs kids of their futures, but also strips families, friends, and classmates of their loved ones only to be replaced with a deep sense of insecurity and loss. From the school shootings in Baltimore City to Great Mills to Catonsville, we’re seeing that it’s long past time to make Maryland a national leader in bold gun reform and reimagining public safety. From strengthening Maryland’s child access prevention law to investing in community organizations like Safe Streets Baltimore, we need a visionary and comprehensive approach to uplifting our neighborhoods. We must reimagine public safety and invest in initiatives and measures that prioritize racial justice. I am honored to have been named one of Moms Demand Action's 2022 Gun Sense Candidates for my work in gun violence prevention. As Maryland’s next governor, stopping gun violence will be a top priority because everyone deserves to feel safe and protected at school, at home, and in their community. But a King-Siri administration can’t take action on gun violence unless we have your support to help us do it. Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
