[John Avlon for Congress]( {NAME}, A few days ago, I asked you about what YOUR top priorities are. So many of you responded that it took a while to read through all of them. But I loved every minute of it because of your enthusiasm and ideas. We need to get past the DC hyper-partisan division and get excited about citizen-driven solutions again. And so that kind of feedback really fires me up – it’s a sign of a campaign that can make real change. It’s why I’m running for Congress. [Before I get into the results, we need to make sure that we are translating this enthusiasm into actual votes. At a critical pivot point in the election season, we need to keep building momentum and moving forward. If you’re able, please pitch in so we can take the fight to Trump flunky Nick LaLota and win in November >>]( Now, for the results. Here’s what you had to say about the issues surrounding our community: - 61% of you marked climate change as a top priority. It’s no wonder, because in Suffolk County, the environment is the economy, and the economy is the environment: from farming to fishing to tourism. Combating climate change based on facts shouldn’t be a partisan issue. To do that, I’ll aim to serve on the Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee if elected to Congress. I also believe it should be tax deductible for families and businesses to make their properties more resilient. We need to invest in beach re-nourishment on a regular basis. And we need to develop the next generation of clean energy technology right here on Long Island. - When asked about what matters to you most nationally, 82% of you chose protecting democracy. I loved reading this because democracy - and the values that go with it - is the foundation on which our country is built. The best way to protect democracy? By using the power of democracy in November. Don’t forget that Donald Trump tried to overturn an election on the back of a lie and was re-nominated by Republicans anyway. We need to defeat Trumpism at the ballot box once and for all so that we can restore common sense problem solving to congress. - I also asked about the best way to fix the problems we have here on Long Island, and the answers that I saw pop up the most were a commitment to bipartisanship, clear communication and collaboration. I couldn’t agree more. From the beginning, I’ve run my campaign like a conversation, and if elected, that’s how I’ll run my office. That starts with doing things like holding in person town halls, something Nick LaLota’s afraid to do. - And yes, I did ask you what you think I’d order next time I ran into you at a restaurant - because who said priorities had to always be about politics? You’re right about me digging a good burger. Here’s a couple favorites: Try the Smoke Burger at The Shed in Huntington or the Bison Burger at Tweed’s in Riverhead. Aside from the food recs - I’m not kidding when I tell you your responses are helping us set our priorities, too. Part of how we got into this mess is politicians so stuck into hyper-partisanship that they forget how they got elected in the first place – as one of you said, the Trumpers in Congress are more interested in holding onto power than solving problems. I couldn’t agree more. The alternative is a commitment to common sense problem solving that rebuilds the middle of our politics and rebuilds the middle of our economy, always listening to fellow citizens and earning their votes. The key is having real conversations. I’m never losing sight of that. [We’ve just got to win this race. I need your help – can you pitch in today?]( Thank you for all your support and thoughts – and thanks for fighting the good fight with me. -John [CONTRIBUTE]( PAID FOR BY JOHN AVLON FOR CONGRESS John Avlon for Congress PO Box 1200 Sag Harbor, NY 11963 United States If you believe you received this message in error or wish to no longer receive email from us, please [unsubscribe](.
