When I think of the future of kids in South Carolina, including Boone, I get worried. McMaster and his buddies are leading us down a path of widespread voter suppression, Charleston flooding, schools as police states, and crumbling infrastructure. That’s why I love for Boone to watch me campaign, the same way I watched my father perform his duties as judge when I was a kid. It shows him that there is an alternative, that our leaders can and should care about South Carolinians. But this race to elect a new governor in S.C. will be challenging and cost a lot. McMaster has millions on hand from special interests and we’ve got to compete without accepting PAC money. [My team says we have to raise another $20K on digital before the end of the month. Our goals are only getting more and more critical—we can’t afford to fall short. I’m running to expand Medicaid to the thousands of South Carolinians who deserve health coverage. And I’m running to fight voter suppression and protect voting rights for everyone. When I am governor, I’ll use the lessons I learned from my dad to build a stronger, fairer South Carolina for everyone.
