Gender disparity in medical care, apples and the Dirty Dozen™, high-protein diets for the win Gender disparity in medical care apples and the Dirty Dozen high protein diets for the win ͏‌ Íâ€Œ Íâ€Œ Íâ€Œ  ͏‌ Íâ€Œ Íâ€Œ Íâ€Œ  ͏‌ Íâ€Œ Íâ€Œ Íâ€Œ  [JJ Virgin]( Hi ,   Here are my Power Picks of the week! [JJ's Power Pick]( [From Heart Disease to IUDs: How Doctors Dismiss Women’s Pain]( I recently read a Washington Post article about gender bias in medicine, showing that doctors often dismiss women's pain and suffering. As one interviewee told writer Lindsey Bever, “You start to doubt yourself after so many medical experts tell you there’s nothing wrong with you.” If you’ve visited numerous doctors only to hear that it's "all in your head,” you understand what she’s talking about. We’ve got to advocate for better pain care, seek second opinions, and bring a support person to medical appointments to ensure healthcare practitioners take us seriously.   [Study: High-Protein Diet Best For Weight Loss]( Last week, I touched on a compelling study illustrating the longevity benefits of higher-protein diets. New research now suggests a strong link between high-protein diets and weight loss. In this study, 135 individuals were segmented into three distinct dieting groups—calorie-restricted, high-protein, and intermittent fasting. The outcomes? Each diet had its merits, yet one particularly stood out in fostering substantial health improvements.   [Apple Season and the Dirty Dozen™]( Although Florida is still warm, fall is here! When I think of autumn fruit, apples come to mind. I love fresh organic apples, but unfortunately, apples frequently make the Environmental Working Group’s (EWG's) Dirty Dozen™ list. Their high pesticide residue content includes a controversial chemical treatment called diphenylamine. While American apple growers believe diphenylamine is safe, European officials have restricted the import of apples treated with this potentially cancer-causing chemical. Something to keep in mind with apple season here: ALWAYS buy organic.   Love, JJ   P.S.
