Gratitude, the health impact of moderate alcohol intake, an app to stay calm Gratitude, the health impact of moderate alcohol intake, an app to stay calm ͏‌ Íâ€Œ Íâ€Œ Íâ€Œ  ͏‌ Íâ€Œ Íâ€Œ Íâ€Œ  ͏‌ Íâ€Œ Íâ€Œ Íâ€Œ  [JJ Virgin]( Hi ,   Here are my Power Picks of the week! [JJ's Power Pick]( [Gratitude Really Is Good for You. Here’s What the Science Shows.]( Finding moments to express what you’re grateful for creates big rewards. I’ve learned that in my own life, and Christina Caron talks about this in her recent New York Times article. Gratitude studies began two decades ago, and today, we’ve got plenty of research to show how this emotion can benefit everything from depression and anxiety to self-esteem and overall life satisfaction. Talk about an instant mood brightener: I start every morning with a gratitude practice, and continue to express what I’m grateful for throughout the day. If you're a gratitude newbie, find a nice journal and write down five things you’re grateful for every morning. Before bed, reflect on your wins (big and small) and start watching miracles show up in your life! As Dr. Joe Dispenza says, “Gratitude is the ultimate state of receivership.”   [Study: Moderate Alcohol Consumption Can Reduce Stress Levels]( Finally, some good news about enjoying that occasional glass of pinot noir! Researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital found that light to moderate alcohol consumption (up to one drink daily for women and two daily for men) could reduce stress levels in the amygdala, your brain region that responds to intense or threatening stimuli. The study, published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, looked at 53,064 older participants, 60% of whom were women. Those who consumed alcohol moderately had fewer stress signals, decreasing the risk of heart attack and stroke. A glass of wine at dinner can help you relax, but remember that too much of a good thing becomes detrimental when it comes to alcohol. Imbibe responsiblly!   [Calm and Spotify Partner to Make Mental Health Content More Accessible]( Mental health is a hot topic these days, and one that’s far overdue for discussion. One way to manage stress is mindfulness. But let’s be honest: practicing one-pointedness amidst the craziness of everyday life can be tough. Curated shows from the meditation app Calm, featured on Spotify, can help. They’ve designed episodes “to support mental well-being and help people sleep better, reduce stress and anxiety, and build mindful habits.” Shows include “Calm for Stress & Anxiety” and “Calm for Sleep.” Inspirational voices include Jay Shetty (author of Think Like a Monk). If you’re new to Calm, type in “Calm for Beginners” in the search bar on Spotify.    Love, JJ   P.S. Free Shipping Weekend is here! Until September 5, EVERY order ships free.
