Proverbs 9:10 Remember His Goodness Sometimes we know a lot about a topic, substance, or issue without understanding its complexities or true nature. With God, however, when we spend time in his Word gaining knowledge of his character, his deeds, and his loving pursuit of us, we come to understand his motives. We gain a greater depth of comprehension, both through insight and experience, about God’s character. And through this process we’re consistently reminded of his passionate pursuit of us. In biblical times, God’s people would often erect a sacrificial altar or other monument (often called an Ebenezer) to commemorate something significant that God did for them. Whether it was rescuing them from the Egyptians, empowering them to defeat an opponent, or dramatically providing for their needs, the Israelites knew that reminders do two important things: 1) ignite worship by helping them to remember God’s goodness; and 2) jog their memory when facing doubts and fears. We, too, need to remember what God has done for us in order to grow in both our knowledge and understanding of him. Pray: “Father, thank you for the many ways you have protected, provided, and guided me. I trust you with my future and rely on you for whatever I’m facing today.” You can grow closer to God with my full Jesus Daily® Devotional Book at [Amazon.com]( or fine bookstores everywhere.
