Grateful? Embarrassed? Curious about their motive? Obligated to give them one in return? We often give gifts because we want something from someone else, maybe even a gift in return. Sometimes we give gifts because it’s the cultural custom, such as a housewarming or hostess gift. Other gifts are given because we want to express our sincere love for the recipient. Regardless of our motive, it’s clear that there’s a blessing when we give. If you’ve ever received a gift you really needed or especially treasured, you know what a blessing such a gift can be. But Jesus tells us that it’s even more blessed to give than to receive. The exercise of giving is one blessing and allows us to focus on God, not on attaining wealth or possessions. And the recipient’s joy is at least one more blessing. Today, practice the blessing of giving good gifts to those around you. Pray: “Lord, I realize that it’s truly a blessing when I can give of my time, resources, or possessions to someone in need. Show me how I can give more.” You can grow closer to God with my full Jesus Daily® Devotional Book at [Amazon.com]( or fine bookstores everywhere. NEW!
