In a couple days, our scrapes usually healed and we didn’t think about them again until the next fall, playground scuffle, or bike accident. We learned that our parents’ attention comforted us and that time healed us. As adults, our wounds and injuries often feel more complex and seem to require more time to heal. The scabs and scars last longer and remind us of the pain inflicted. Invisible injuries hurt even worse—the harsh words said, the devastating betrayals endured, the precious moments stolen. Jesus knew what it meant to bear the pain of both visible and invisible injuries. He bore the burden of our sins through his death on the cross. We experience healing from all that hurts us because of his loving sacrifice.
