If you stop and consider that you’re being supported thousands of feet above a deep, often dangerous, body of water, it can be disconcerting. Will the steel and concrete continue to hold? You can see the beams, columns, and cables reinforcing the strength of the bridge, but when it stretches for a great distances—miles even—it often causes concern. But what if you had to cross an invisible bridge? “Just keep driving straight and don’t look down if you’re afraid of heights. Yes, it’s a little scary to be so high above the water without being able to see the bridge that’s supporting you, but it’s there nonetheless.” Can you imagine your response to such a recommendation?
