And often parents feel as though they repeat themselves over and over again, mostly because their children don’t always act on what they hear. In an ideal world, we would only have to tell our kids to do something one time and they would then immediately obey us and do it. God may feel this way about the way we listen to him. It’s one thing for us to study our Bibles, hear teaching and preaching from the Scriptures, and memorize verses. But it’s another thing for us to absorb the truth of God’s Word into our hearts and to act on this truth. Our Father wants us to obey him by following the example set by his Son, Jesus. If we love our Father and want to please him, we will do more than just hear what he says. We will obey what he asks us to do for him. Pray: “Dear God, I’m so grateful for your Word and all that you reveal in it. I want to be a doer of your truth and not just a hearer.
