Dr. King's example

[ ](#) {NAME}, Today we honor a true American hero, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose vision and embodiment of the best of the American experiment resonates deeply in this challenging time. Dr. King wasn't just one of the best orators in human history; he also did the hard work of organizing a movement to challenge the forces of hatred and oppression -- even if it ultimately meant paying the highest price possible. As we face rising hatred and white nationalism in the Republican Party, we must remember and honor his example. While Dr. King is commonly known for his work on racial justice issues, his labors in organizing the working class against economic exploitation are just as critical to his legacy. As income inequality surges and corporate money floods our political system, our future as a country depends on our ability to update and live Dr. King's example in a new century. That's why I urge you to take this day to reflect deeply on what Dr. King means for America and keep working hard to help America become a place where all can live with dignity and equality.
