And it’s probably not what you’re expecting. Funny story for you, {NAME}. Years ago, when I was starting my podcast from the front seat of my car, I had this funny idea … Let me back up a bit and give you a little bit of context on how I got to this idea in the first place. Drew and I don’t argue about much in our relationship … But this one seemingly harmless question can become a point of contention in our marriage. And we’ve allll heard it: “What are we going to eat for dinner?” Ugh. PLEASE tell me I’m not the only person who absolutely hates that question! Like, ask me if I want steak or chicken and I can quickly decide. No problem. But that open-ended question? Yeah, only ask it if you want to get me on the slippery path from indecisive to mad. Anyyyywayssss. After too many hunger-fueled arguments over dinner, we started to get HelloFresh meals delivered more regularly. (Quick heads up: this email is in NO way sponsored by them. This is actually a hilarious disclaimer … you’ll see why in a sec.) We got our first … then our fifth … then our fiftieth box and saw it was a real solution for us and for our dinner times. We still had yummy options and, more often than not, I was just choosing between steak or chicken. Ha! Alright, back to starting my podcast in the front seat of my car … In the early days of podcasting life, there weren’t sponsors lined up at my door waiting to pay me to talk about their products. So, I had to get super creative. I started talking about those products and brands anyway. I even made little simple pages on my website to send people to so they could claim their offer and I could reap the rewards of their simple “refer a friend” programs. Something crazy happened when I told the story about our dinner-time arguments and how this box of food showed up at my doorstep every week and solved (almost) all of my problems … People connected with that story, too. And then they signed up, and when they did, I got a free box of food. And another. And another. We literally got dinner paid for for like a year straight. Just because I used my podcast to talk about something I used and loved. That’s what podcasting can do. It gives you this chance to truly build the know/like/trust factor in a way that’s hard to do with those dancing trend videos or in 15-30 second time slots. It allows you to show the whole story, or even a string of stories (like chapters in your life’s book) and connect on a level that invites people into action, whether it’s in joining a food subscription, learning more about your offers, or being impacted by the work you do. What’s wild is that HelloFresh recently reached out to actually pay me to run an ad on my show and I just about tipped out of my chair when I saw the request come in … Talk about full circle. Over the years my podcast has driven massive results for me from growing my email list to selling my online courses, selling other people’s products/services/offers to helping me test out new ideas, getting paid sponsorships to meeting quite a few of my idols—some who’ve become near and dear friends. If you have a voice … If you want to share your story … If you want to change lives … If you want to ask the bigger questions … And heck, if you want to get free groceries (or something else) ... Then maybe a podcast is your next best step! If there’s even a seed of curiosity in your body, I’ve got the perfect podcasting plan ready and [waiting for you inside The Podcast Lab!]() This is your complete, 5-step system to plan, record, publish, launch, and monetize your very own podcast in just 30 days!
