There’s a part of my book I’d like to change, {NAME}. Ah, well not change, as much as… add to? Chapter 7, A Battlefield of Cuts, in my book, [How Are You, Really?](, is a weighty chunk of the book with some heavy stories about loss and healing. In the middle of the chapter, I say this: “We all want to experience the wholeness of life, but so many of us refuse to accept the wholeness of ourselves.” Recently, I reread that part. I paused and felt my brain stir up a few extra words: It’s not that many of us are refusing to accept the wholeness of ourselves… it’s that we don’t know how. It’s hard to know how to be whole, or what that even means. And who could ever tell you what ‘whole’ looks like for you, other than you? Learning what the wholeness of life and of ourselves really looks like is entirely up to us. It’s a process that is deeply personal, and I believe very much an intuitive journey where we get things wrong, back up, change direction, and keep trying. So, this leads me to the conversation I wanted to open up here. Have you thought about what that whole version of yourself feels like? What does wholeness mean for you? Whole-hearted? Whole and healed? Perhaps it means peaceful and content? Maybe it’s an acceptance of your whole self—body, mind and soul? Maybe it’s a returning to yourself, a putting-back-together of what has been broken? For me, it was reconnecting my ‘self’ and the human I saw in the mirror—the body I felt had betrayed me. (I won’t spill all my stories here, but chapter 7, and many others, are always there waiting for you—heck, press play on [the audiobook version]() and I’ll read them all to you.) I’ve personally seen the effects of what it’s like to be more gentle on myself as I seek to uncover that ‘whole’ version of myself, and I want to encourage you today to do the same.
