This was a ban written 121 years ago — before Arizona had even achieved statehood or women had the right to vote. Arizona’s GOP Attorney General took action to enact the archaic ban following the reversal of Roe v. Wade. Attorneys General matter, and their decisions can have direct and sweeping policy outcomes for the rights of their constituents. What happened in Arizona is a dangerous reminder of what happens when extremists hold these offices and support outrageous, unconstitutional, and outdated laws. We know Chris Carr supports sweeping abortion bans without exceptions for rape or incest. We know that Georgia Republicans are considering further restrictions on reproductive rights that go well beyond HB 481 — including bans on contraception. Make no mistake: Chris Carr will rubber-stamp any extreme law that passes the legislature, even if it blatantly violates Georgians' rights or the Georgia Constitution. If the stakes of having an extreme, anti-choice Attorney General weren't clear, yesterday's news out of Arizona should serve as a sobering moment. So right now, we need to do everything we can to stop the same from happening in Georgia. [That starts with replacing Chris Carr — and I can't do that without your help. Because of her real-life experience in the courtroom and out of it, Jen knows that now, more than ever, we need an Attorney General who will take a stand and fight for the rights of each and every Georgian.
