A federal judge just ruled that Georgia's system of electing members to the PSC violates the Voting Rights Act. Chris Carr has chosen to defend this practice, which dilutes votes of Black Georgians. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ [Jen Jordan - Democrat for Georgia Attorney General]( York&st=NY&pc=10016&oc=&nvep=ew0KICAiVGVuYW50VXJpIjogIm5ncHZhbjovL3Zhbi9OR1AvTkdQMzAvMS85MDAzMiIsDQogICJEaXN0cmlidXRpb25VbmlxdWVJZCI6ICJmY2Q3ZjIyNC0zMjE4LWVkMTEtYmQ2ZS0yODE4NzhiODNkOGEiLA0KICAiRW1haWxBZGRyZXNzIjogInRyaXN0cmFtYmFsZHdpbjkxQGdtYWlsLmNvbSINCn0%3D&hmac=rrztEOSsbsxWXvQfmRUEh-bYxn_5QGOV8jAL_WPo4KY=) {NAME}, For too long, Georgia has used a method of electing members of the Public Service Commission (PSC) that dilutes the power of Black voters and blatantly violates the Voting Rights Act: despite representing individual districts, commissioners are elected in a statewide vote. The PSC's decisions impact the rates Georgians have to pay for power, gas, and telecommunications — and these decisions especially affect communities of color, whether in rural Georgia or urban centers. It's outrageous that the voices of communities of color have been diluted for so long, but that's by design. Last legislative session, I sought to fix this and tried to pass a bill that would require that Public Service Commissioners be elected only by the voters in the districts they represent because I believed it violated the Voting Rights Act. This past Friday, a federal judge agreed and ruled that Georgia's method of electing public service commissioners had to go. All Georgia leaders should have celebrated this news. But my opponent Chris Carr decided to appeal the federal judge’s decision and fight for the status quo that dilutes the voting power of Black Georgians. This is a clear example of how our Attorney General can affect the basic foundations of our democracy. Carr was under no obligation to appeal this ruling, and could have allowed our state to advance with free and fair PSC elections. He decided otherwise. [Once again, Chris Carr has failed to stand up for Georgians' rights — so it's time to double down on our efforts to defeat him on Election Day. Because of her real-life experience in the courtroom and out of it, Jen knows that now, more than ever, we need an Attorney General who will take a stand and fight for the rights of each and every Georgian.
