Protecting the environment means protecting Georgians' health

Here in Georgia, the Attorney General has a critical role to play in enforcing environmental standards and holding those who violate them accountable. It's because of this responsibility – and Chris Carr's failure to uphold his – that I first had the idea to run for the office. In 2019, we learned that a Sterigenics plant in my state Senate district was releasing ethylene oxide — a chemical linked to cancer, as well as stillbirths and miscarriages — into local communities. Georgia's Environmental Protection Division (EPD) failed to do its job. They knew long before the public that the levels of ethylene oxide being released were harmful to our local community. So I sued the EPD. I knew that the health and safety of Georgians should never take a backseat to the interests of a big corporation. Chris Carr could've helped our efforts to shut down the Sterigenics plant. He had the authority to go to court on behalf of the people of Georgia. But he refused. I'm running to defeat Chris Carr because Georgians deserve a legal advocate who doesn't hesitate to protect them and isn't afraid to hold powerful interests accountable.
