"I'm bad at video"

For a long time, I believed I was "bad at video." For a long time, I believed I was "bad at video." I didn't just believe that, but I often said it, and I operated in a way that reinforced it. Of course I was bad at video – I had no training and no practice! I'm also bad at riding a motorcycle. I'm bad at cooking. I'm bad at playing the drums. I'm bad at anything that I haven't made an effort to get GOOD at! "Bad" is not only subjective, but it's impermanent. Bad is a step along the way to being GOOD at something. But by believing I was irrevocably BAD at video, I made decisions to keep me in that place. Decisions that didn't involve video at all. Decisions that probably held me back. Earlier this year I met [Kevin Shen](), someone who is very GOOD at video. So good in fact that Tiago Forte brought him in for several multi-day sessions to design Tiago's home video studio. And I have to tell you...it's been a game changer. Video is so good at building trust. It's not being IRL, but it's as close as you can get – especially if you have a great setup. It's even opened up some other doors I didn't expect, like recording video with my podcast and posting clips to [Instagram](=) and [TikTok]() (yes, I'm now on TikTok!). I still wouldn't say that I'm GOOD at video. But I'm no longer bad...and I'm actively getting better every day. And in today's world as a creator, I think that will serve me quite a bit.
