  # {NAME}, This is a longer email with an update before the FEC deadline on Saturday. [Before our update, can you click here and donate so Jamie has the strongest fundraising report possible?]( Read Jamie’s update below: I’m running for Congress because working people and our planet are hurting, our democracy and fundamental rights are at stake, and I’ve always stepped up to serve. I understand what it’s like to struggle to get by and to have your rights threatened, because I’ve lived it. Winning Oregon’s 5th congressional district (OR-05) — and helping Democrats flip the House — is central to this work. How? By bridging the urban-rural divide that too often defines political leadership. I have been bridging this divide for years, building the foundation to win in 2024. In 2018, in a deeply red district, I challenged a 20-year Republican incumbent who was trying to take away our healthcare. The result? We had the largest voter swing of any congressional race in the country, and I became the first Democrat in 48 years to win Deschutes County in a Congressional House race. That incumbent left our healthcare alone and retired the next cycle. In 2020, during the height of COVID, we used our network to help numerous candidates across the state connect with voters. When OR-05 was dramatically redrawn in 2021 to include Central Oregon, it changed from leaning-Democrat to a tossup district. That means OR-5 is now one of the most competitive districts in the entire country. In 2022, we built a strong base throughout OR-05 and had one of the closest races in the country. Since then, I’ve built an even stronger team and framework, and we are well positioned to win in 2024. An early poll by one of the most respected polling firms in the country shows I have more than a 40% lead in the Democratic primary. I’m the only candidate with on-the-ground experience in housing, education, infrastructure, water, natural resources, wildfires, and dealing with the impacts of climate change. I’m the only Democrat to have been elected in rural Central Oregon. I bridge the urban-rural divide, win in “purple” areas, and am the only Democrat in 50 years to win the second biggest county in OR-05 in a Congressional House race. In 2024, Lori Chavez-DeRemer will not be able to hide from her MAGA votes, but she already has millions of dollars from out-of-state — like Kevin McCarthy’s SuperPAC — pouring in to support her. Defeating her will take a strong base of support in OR-05, experience in rural and urban issues, and a track record of success bringing Oregonians together in “purple” areas to solve problems. The work we’ve done and the foundation we’ve built makes me the best-positioned Democrat to win both the OR-05 primary and the general election in 2024, but I can’t do it alone.
