Morning Bites: 5 things to know for Monday, August 21, 2023 Fraser-Pryce chases history in 100m at World Champs Defending women’s 100m world champion, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is looking to create history on two fronts today at the [World Championships in Budapest, Hungary](. She’s looking to win the 100m title for an unprecedented six times and, if she does, will become the second athlete after the Russian great pole vaulter, Sergey Bubka to win six gold medals in a single event at the championships. JUTC to receive 50 new buses today The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) has advised that the 50 new buses that were expected in the island over two months ago [should arrive in the island today](. The buses are urgently needed to boost the aging fleet of the state-owned bus company. While the JUTC announced the pending arrival of the buses in a news release last Friday, it must be noted that this is the fourth occasion on which a date was set for the arrival of the buses since Tourism Minister and Leader of Government Business in the Houses of Representatives, Edmund Bartlett, said they would have arrived at the end of June. Several Caribbean Airlines flights cancelled amid pilot sickout Caribbean Airlines announced Sunday evening that several flights were cancelled after the company received [“a remarkably high volume of calls from pilots”]( who said that they were unwell and unable to report for duty. The airline added that it is currently in negotiations with the Trinidad and Tobago Airline Pilots Association over an agreement for the 2015-2018 period. It said pilots called in sick approximately three hours before flight departure times. TEF summer internship programme enrols 14,000 students Tourism Minister, Edmund Bartlett has said that the Tourism Enhancement Fund’s Summer Internship Programme (SIP) has reached unprecedented success in 2023, with a record-breaking 14,000 students registering to participate in the programme. Moreover, an impressive 1,100 students have secured job placements with 136 employers across the country.
