know for Monday, July 3, 2023 Sexual Harassment Act takes effect The long-awaited [Sexual Harassment Act]( will take effect today. The legislation, which has been in the making for many years, spans several political administrations. It addresses concerns about sexual harassment that are employment-related, occurring in institutions, or arising in the landlord/tenant relationship. The Act contains provisions for dealing with sexual harassment in the workplace, schools, correctional institutions, places of safety, nursing homes, medical and psychiatric facilities, among other places. Quadruple murder suspect remains on the run with trial set to start The murder trial of quadruple murder suspect, Anward âKirkieâ Hinds, is set to get underway today, but he [remains on the run after escaping from the Black River police station lock-up]( in St Elizabeth on June 18 along with seven other inmates. His attorney Thomas Levene has said that "The police are unable to account for the whereabouts of my client and he has a trial â the murder matter that was set for priority to start on July 3â. Hinds has been charged in relation to the murders of four farmers â Archibald Brown, 60; his brother George Brown, 57; Maurice Sanderson, 40; and Ezra Wright, 73 â in the remote community of Claremont in northern St Elizabeth on May 27, 2015. New NHT loan limits now in effect The [increases in National Housing Trust (NHT) loan limits]( which were announced by Prime Minister Andrew Holness during his Budget presentation in March, are now in effect. Effective July 1, 2023, the general loan limit for a single applicant was increased to $7.5 million, up from $6.5 million â a 15 per cent increase. If a single contributor is buying a housing solution priced at $12 million or less, the contributor may access up to $8.5 million towards financing for that unit. Whatâs more, two persons applying jointly will be able to access funding of up to $15 million, up from $13 million.
Advertisement Benfica youth camp in Jamaica A [six-day football training camp organised by Portuguese football club SL Benfica]( is set to get underway today at Sabina Park in Kingston. The camp will run until July 8. Benfica is sending coaches to Jamaica to conduct the training camp as part of its International Schools Programme. The camp will feature aspiring players from ages six to 17 and will consist of two sessions of 50 children daily for the first five days, with the best players selected for two games on day six. The project was organised in part by Sports Innovators Group which signed a partnership deal with the reigning Portuguese champions. Elon Musk imposes daily limits on reading posts on Twitter Twitter owner Elon Musk has [limited the number of tweets that users can view each day]( â restrictions he described as an attempt to prevent unauthorized scraping of potentially valuable data from the social media platform. The site is now requiring people to log on to view tweets and profiles â a change in its longtime practice to allow everyone to peruse the chatter on what Musk has frequently touted as the worldâs digital town square since buying it for US$44 billion last year. The restrictions could result in users being locked out of Twitter for the day after scrolling through several hundred tweets.
