know for Friday, June 9, 2023 Rains to continue into the weekend â Met Service Jamaicans have been told to brace for [rainy weather]( into the weekend. The Meteorological Service is reporting a broad trough across the western Caribbean which it says will continue to generate unstable weather conditions across the island. Mostly cloudy conditions will continue today, with periods of showers and thunderstorms mainly across southern parishes. Windy conditions are also expected, especially for southern parishes. At the same time, a flash flood watch for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St Thomas, Kingston and St Andrew, St Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, St Elizabeth and Westmoreland is in effect until 5:00 pm today. St James couple in $85m cocaine seizure to stand trial The trial of the St James couple [charged in relation to the seizure of cocaine valued at approximately $85 million]( is set to begin today in the St James Parish Court. Bank employee Sheena Headley and her husband Chad are charged with possession of, dealing in and taking steps to export cocaine. They were arrested and charged in June 2022 after cops from the Area One Narcotics Police Division seized cocaine weighing approximately 25 pounds. Jamaican ex-cop, two others for pre-trial hearing on murder rap in California Former Jamaican cop-turned-dancehall producer, 44-year-old Omar âMilla 9â Miller and fellow Jamaican, Andre Andrews, 37, are to [face a pre-trial hearing in California today in relation to a 2019 home invasion robbery and murder in Irvine, California.]( The two are charged together with 36-year-old Devon Quinland. Allegations are that Andrews and Miller shot and killed 20-year-old businessman Raymond Alcala during a house invasion. The incident was captured on CCTV at a home in Irvine, California, United States in 2019.

The School Peace Ambassadors will serve as sentinels tasked with keeping the peace among their peers and be trained in restorative practices for children. The ambassadors will also be afforded the opportunity to learn of the functions of the Custos Rotulorum for Manchester, as well as the role of Justices of the Peace. Minister of Justice Delroy Chuck will address the ambassadors; so too the Minister of Education and Youth, Fayval Williams. Education Ministry, Digicel Foundation collaborate for opening of renovated special education centre The Ministry of Education and Youth has partnered with Digicel Foundation to provide a [retrofitted special education centre in Santa Cruz]( St Elizabeth which was officially handed over on Wednesday. The project, which was approved in 2022, saw Digicel Foundation retrofitting the former Santa Cruz Basic School at a cost of J$43m converting it to the Santa Cruz Special Education Centre. It is the first of its kind in St Elizabeth and will accommodate a total of 60 students in its expanded facility. It is designed to provide transitionary special education support to students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities at the primary and secondary school levels.
