Morning Bites: 5 things to know for Thursday, June 8, 2023 Holness in the Bahamas for meeting with US Vice President Prime Minister Andrew Holness is now in the Bahamas, where he will participate in the United States-Caribbean Leaders meeting. The two-day event will see Caricom leaders and other key delegates [meeting with the Vice President of the United States Kamala Harris](. Holness is set to return to the island on Friday. During the period, the Deputy Prime Minister Dr Horace Chang will be in charge of the Government. Police to interview children taken from Bayith Yahweh compound in St James The St James police are now getting ready to conduct interviews with some 20 children who were [removed from the Bayith Yahweh compound in Paradise, Montego Bay on Wednesday](. The children were placed before the St James Family Court for processing following their removal. The children were extracted from the facility during a joint police-military operation at the facility after concerns were raised about minors living there. Representatives of the Child Protection and Family Services Agency and the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse took part in the operation. MAJ hosts Symposium 2023 The Medical Association of Jamaica will be hosting its Symposium 2023 from today, June 8-11 under the theme ‘Protecting our world, Securing our Health'. The symposium will be held in association with the Ministry of Health and Wellness. The symposium will be held in hybrid form, with the venue being the Jamaica Pegasus hotel. Thursday’s session will run from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm and the public forum will examine the issue ‘Skin lightening products – environmental risk below the surface’. Neita Garvey made the proposal during her contribution to the Sectoral Debate at Gordon House on Wednesday. “Relevant to this proposal is the development of a public-private sector partnership, to have an incentive programme which will seek to attract investors from home and abroad and additionally will serve to incentivise the industry stakeholders here in Jamaica,” she said. The programme proposes up to 10 years of relief from General Consumption Tax, income tax and import duty.
