According to a notice circulating on social media, the Jamaica Teachers Association (JTA) has adopted a resolution that will see teachers in the parishes of Westmoreland, St Elizabeth, Manchester, Clarendon, St Catherine, Kingston and St Andrew and St Thomas taking industrial action today. The JTA did not specify the type of industrial action. Mining and quarrying down 1.4 per cent in April â STATIN The Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) is reporting that output prices for April 2023 in the mining and quarrying industry declined by 1.4 per cent, while prices for the manufacturing industry increased by 0.3 per cent. STATIN said the decline in the index for the mining and quarrying industry was due mainly to a similar downward movement in the index for the major group âBauxite Mining & Alumina Processingâ. The index for the other major group, âOther Mining & Quarryingâ decreased by 0.3 per cent. The point-to-point index (April 2022 â April 2023) for the Mining & Quarrying industry, fell by 5.2 per cent. This decline was attributed to a decrease of 5.5 per cent in the index for the major group âBauxite Mining & Alumina Processingâ. Justice Ministry stages justice fair in St Annâs Bay The Ministry of Justice will today host the Legal Aid Councilâs (LAC) Justice Fair at Lawrence Park, St Annâs Bay, St Ann from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. According to the ministry, LAC justice fairs continue to play an integral role in the accessibility to justice services by Jamaicans. The fairs also assist the ministry of Justice to fulfil its mandate of âtaking justice to the people of Jamaica.â Residents of the parish are encouraged to attend to access justice services such as expungement of criminal records, victim support, legal aid and many others.
