Morning Bites: 5 things to know for Monday, May 15, 2023 Holness, Guterres to hold Jamaica House talks Prime Minister Andrew Holness will today welcome the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres for talks at the Office of the Prime Minister at 11:00 am. Guterres [arrived in the island on Sunday on a two-day working visit]( and will depart later on Monday. Holness and Secretary General Guterres will hold bilateral talks on several issues including Jamaica's lead role in mediating the situation in Haiti and how to involve the international community. All eyes out west as murders rock St James, Hanover A [spate of murders]( in the western end of the island, in particular in the parishes of St James and Hanover, has left residents on edge and the authorities scrambling to contain the bloodshed. Among the affected communities is Mount Salem where Jamaica’s first Zone of Special Operations (ZOSO) was launched and which is still in effect. Several double murders have occurred in St James over the past week and Hanover has also been rocked by a string of homicides, a development that is threatening recent gains in lowering the country’s murder rate.
