know for Friday, March 31, 2023 Bail hearing continues for UWIâs Matthew Hyde Matthew Hyde, the 20-year-old student accused of [torturing his ex-girlfriend in his dorm room on the Mona campus]( of The University of the West Indies (UWI), will return to the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court today for the continuation of his bail hearing. When he last appeared in court on Monday, his attorney, Peter Champagnie, KC, proposed that Hyde be housed at a private institution that treats with persons dealing with mental health issues, if he is offered bail. Hyde is accused of holding his 19-year-old ex-girlfriend captive for three days in his room during which time he repeatedly beat and burned her with a clothes iron all over her body after reportedly accusing her of infidelity.
