Morning Bites: 5 things to know for Tuesday, February 28, 2023 Hearing to resume for cop dad who fatally left child in car Detective Sergeant Sheldon Dobson, whose 18-month-old daughter died after being left unattended in his car for several hours last year, is set to reappear before the St Elizabeth Parish Court in Balaclava today for the [continuation of a committal hearing](. When he last appeared before presiding Judge Brodrick Smith in January, his attorney, Thomas Levene told the OBSERVER that the hearing was adjourned as the court had other responsibilities. On January 17, 2022, Dobson, during a change of routine, [left his baby daughter in his car for hours]( when he got to work at the Black River police station. The child, Shaleah Dobson, died two days later at hospital. Contract signing for Electronic Health Records System Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Christopher Tufton, will today participate in the contract signing ceremony for the [Electronic Health Records System]( (EHRS). The ceremony is set for 10:00 am at the Spanish Town Hospital in St Catherine. The EHRS is being implemented as part of the [Health Systems Strengthening Programme]( for which Jamaica has received a loan of US$50 million from the Inter-American Development Bank. A portion of that sum has been applied to the acquisition of the EHRS which will, among other things, allow healthcare providers access to review a patient’s full medical history via a database, whether at a health centre or hospital. Airport trio on cocaine charges to know fate The three former Sangster International Airport employees who are facing drug charges stemming from allegations that they [tried to smuggle 11.4 kilogrammes of cocaine onto a Canada-bound flight]( in 2021 should know their fate today when their trial will either continue or the case against them dismissed. Indra Waite, Brelanie Reid, and Romaine Kerr, whose trial began in the St James Parish Court on November 16, 2022, had their bails extended to today’s date after their lawyers made a joint application on February 21 for the matter to be dismissed for want of prosecution. Allegations are that on October 10, 2021, the defendants were servicing a Sun Wing flight that was scheduled to depart from the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, when they conspired and placed a bag with 11.4 kilograms of cocaine, valued at $88.1 million, on board the aircraft. The cocaine was intercepted at the Toronto Pearson International Airport in Canada and one person was arrested in relation to the seizure. Following top-level investigations, the three St James residents were also arrested and charged.
