Who I am and why this race matters

But in order to make the progress our communities deserve, we need to elect a different kind of leadership who actually understands the issues people face. And I’m that candidate: I understand the complexities of immigration, because I am an immigrant. I identify with issues single parents face, because I am a single parent. As a veteran, I served my country in Desert Storm, Iraq, and Afghanistan. I have experience leading this community for 12 years as a councilwoman. And I’m an educator, who spent 30 years leading our children into their bright futures. {NAME}, I’ve seen firsthand the struggles this community faces, and I’ve experienced many of the same myself. While the current Congress’ way may work for the political elite, we need someone different leading the charge to make a real difference for families across NY-01.
